Elzear Pitre:  24 November, 1935 – 5 February, 2023 - Fletcher Funeral Chapel:  Elzear “Al” Joseph Pitre late of Weyburn, Saskatchewan passed away February 5, 2023 at the age of 87 years.  Dad was born on November 24, 1935 at Tetagouche, New Brunswick.  He was the second oldest of 8 children.  He went to school until Grade 8.  Dad had various jobs.  One of them was working in the logging camps with his father and good friend Jim Henry.  Dad and Jim were also kept busy fishing and hunting to provide for their families as well as friends and neighbours.  People didn’t have much so they helped each other out.  Dad married Agnes Hickey on October 16, 1956 in Bathurst, New Brunswick.  They had 2 children while there – Dan in 1957 and Susan in 1958.  Jobs were scarce in those years so Dad looked for work elsewhere.  In 1959 he answered an ad in the Winnipeg Free Press for a farmhand in Saskatchewan.  Clifford Jacobs was looking for a hired man to work on his mixed farm operation in the Trossachs area.  Dad didn’t have enough money for train tickets for him and his growing family.  Mom was 7 months pregnant with their 3rd child by this time.  Clifford took a chance on Dad and sent him the train tickets.  Keith was born in 1959 and Audrey in 1960.  In 1962 Dad bought 3 quarters of land and farmed that while still working for Clifford and using Clifford’s machinery.  Bruce was born in 1964, completing the family.  That year Dad bought 2 more quarters of land and moved a house into the meadow by Brokenshell Creek.  It was a beautiful place in the valley but in 1971 after being flooded the house was moved up to higher ground.  Through this time Dad continued to work for Clifford part time until Clifford sold his farm in 1973.  As the family grew up our house was getting too small.  In 1975 Dad bought and moved a house from the Souris Valley grounds in Weyburn to the farm.  After totally renovating it we moved into it in 1976.  Dad and Mom remained on the farm until 2005 when they sold the farm to daughter Audrey and husband Ken.  While living in the Trossachs community Dad also worked for the RM of Brokenshell, drove school bus and volunteered with the local 4H club.  In their free time Dad & Mom enjoyed camping, fishing, bowling, getting together with friends for ball games and going to neighbours for coffee and card games.  Also, Dad started golfing in his late fifties and enjoyed that for many years.  After retiring and moving to Weyburn in 2005 Dad was quite involved as a volunteer with the local Red Wings hockey club until 2020 when the pandemic began.  He also enjoyed coffee time with his buddies. Dad and Mom stayed busy with their garden and fruit trees.  Dad and Mom enjoyed watching their grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sports and other activities.  They were always happy when they came to visit as Dad had a special place in his heart for the kids.  He was proud of them all.  Rachel’s son Teller spent a lot of time with Papa.  If she needed a sitter they would tell her they could watch him or they just phoned and said bring Teller over.  At Christmas while in hospital he was able to meet and hold his newest great-grandson Seamus.  Dad was all smiles that day.  It’s too bad he didn’t have more time to spend with the children.  After spending 2 weeks in hospital over Christmas and New Year’s Dad was transferred to Weyburn Special Care Home.  His health declined rapidly and after a month there he died peacefully in his sleep.  We are sad he is gone but we know he is in a better place with other family and friends that went before him.  Till we see you again Dad.  Al was predeceased by his parents, Leonard & Regina Pitre; sister, Florida Gauthier; sister-in-law, Kathy Pitre; son-in-law, Kenneth Scott; son, Keith Pitre; grandsons, Landon Pitre and Adrian Scott; great-grandson, Mason Robillard and great-great-grandson, Robbie Hyderman.  Al is survived by his wife of 66 years, Agnes Pitre; son, Dan (Debra) Pitre of Trossachs, SK and their children: Tammy (Darren) Berger and family, Shekinah LaRose (Lee Kloth) and her children: Keyanna, Brylee and Leeroy, Chanel Vogel and her son, Rayne Hilton, Jasmine Berger (Josh Tanner) and Savannah Berger; daughter, Susan (Brian) Bouvier of Stoughton, SK and their children, April (Rodney) Pelletier and their children, Steven (Shanise) Pelletier and their daughter: Emmaline, Samanatha Pelletier and her son, Hayes; Shawn Bouvier and his children: Abby and Jersey; daughter, Audrey Scott (Allan MacDonald) of Radville, SK and their children, Rachel (Scott) Robillard and their son, Teller; Adam Scott, Lara Hazen and children, Ethan, Sheridyn and Charlie, Mallory (Micheal) MacDonald and their daughter Rivin, Dane (Leah) MacDonald and their children Odin and Finn; son, Bruce (Wendy) Pitre of Weyburn, SK and their children: Ashton (Tyler) Fehr and their son, Seamus, Justin (Jennifer) Pitre and Alexander Pitre; brothers, Omer, Eugene and Robert; sisters, Delima, Marie Anne and Anita as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  A Mass of Christian Burial took place Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. from St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church, Weyburn, Saskatchewan with Father Valentine Amobi celebrating.  Honorary Pallbearers ~ Al’s Grandchildren: Tammy, April, Shawn, Adam, Rachel, Ashton, Justin and Alex.  Interment will take place at Radville ~ Laurier Cemetery, Radville, Saskatchewan at a later date.  For family and friends so wishing, donations in memory of Al may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Calgary.
