Obituaries for the children:
Catherine Peters: Catherine Peters Gates was embraced by the arms of the Lord on January 14, 2023. She was born in Oswego, N.Y. on July 20, 1943, to Irving J. Peters and Catherine Burke Peters of Locust Valley, N.Y. She attended St. Dominic's High School in Oyster Bay, N.Y. She graduated from St. Elizabeth's School of Nursing, becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse. She began her nursing career as an LPN at Glen Cove Community hospital on Long Island. She then took employment at St Luke's Memorial Hospital, Utica, N.Y., and then St. Elizabeth's Medical Office in Barneveld, N.Y. But her most rewarding experience was at the end of her career working for Hospice. The job she held most dear, however, was being a devoted wife, homemaker and a loving mother to her children and a Nana to her grandchildren. She was married to Barry G. Gates of Whitesboro, N.Y. on October 17th, 1964. The union blessed them with five children and six grandchildren. Surviving besides her husband are daughters Sheila Kinard (Jim), Sherri Stephenson (Tim), son Barry Gates Jr. and twin sons John Gates (Ashley), Patrick Gates (Lynne) and her "adopted daughter" Jennifer Hedel Shedd (Terry). She is also survived by her grandchildren Sabrina, Burke, Morgan, Brandon, Jordan and Casey, and her three loving sisters Terry Edwards (Doug), Sheila Kraus, Sister Sean Cathleen Peters CSJ and many special nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, grandson Ethan Gates and several brothers and sisters-in-law. She was a faithful congregant of Christ Our Hope Parish (St. Patrick's in Forestport), and a member of Catholic Woman's Club, American Legion Auxiliary Holland Patent, N.Y. and VFW Auxiliary, Stittville, N.Y. When the twins were young, she was president of the "Mothers of Twins Club". She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting but she especially loved people and visiting old friends and making new ones. She had a big heart and never met anyone who wasn't a friend. There are so many special friends that Cathy had we can't begin to list them all, we are so grateful at this time for the gift of their support. We would also like to thank the Leon Roberts Post #161 of the American Legion for their heartfelt assistance in our time of need. The loving care she was given at Betsy Ross Nursing and Rehab Facility was much appreciated by her family, especially members of the therapy department. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on January 23, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St Patrick Catholic Church, Forestport, N.Y. To honor Cathy's wishes there are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to Christ Our Hope Parish, Boonville N.Y. or Hospice and Palliative Care, New Hartford N.Y.
