- The Windsor Star (Ont), Saturday, 10 October 1925:  Mother and babes flee in night attire – Flames start from an overheated stove in border home – Blaze kept from spreading by efforts of firemen – Fire, caused by an overheated stove, partially destroyed the home of R. Pitre, Tecumseh, about 10 o’clock last night.  The lives of the little family of five were in peril for a few minutes, as they had retired some time before the blaze was noticed.  The damage will amount to $1,200.  The fire started in the kitchen and spread to a pantry adjoining.  As the flames gained headway the fire spread upward and shot through the roof, attracting crowds from the town and the neighboring countryside.  The building was a frame cottage, and for a time it was feared that the efforts of the fire-fighters would be of no avail in saving any part of it or the furniture.  The front part of the house was saved after a steady battle.  Reeve Ernest Cecile, who was on the street at the time, noticed the flames leaping about the kitchen, and raised the alarm at the house, waking Mrs. Pitre.  He then called out the Tecumseh fire department.  Mrs. Pitre and her three small children fled the burning house in their night attire and sought shelter with neighbors, while Mr. Pitre turned to aid in the fight against the flames.  Only the excellent work of Chief Jerry Desjardine and his men saved the house from complete destruction.  A house standing some ten feet away was also in danger for a time, but a stream of water constantly playing upon it, saved it.
