Obituary: Oakland Tribune (CA), Monday, 25 May 1964: Peters, James F., in Martinez, May 24, 1964, beloved husband of Margaret M. Peters of Alameda; loving father of James F. Peters of San Jose, Mrs. Timothy J. Rapley of Alameda, Sister M. Naomi, O.P. of Dominican Convent, San Rafael, Mary and Joseph Peters of Alameda; loving brother of Walter and Margaret Peters and Mrs. Ruth Devolder. A native of Boston, Massachusetts. A member of the Sign Painter's Union, No. 878 of Oakland and the Holy Names Society of St. Barnabas Church. Friends are invited to attend the funeral services Wednesday, May 27, at 9 a.m. from the Gothic Chapel of the Hagy-Keenan Mortuary, Central Avenue at Ninth Street, Alameda, where a Requiem Mass will be offered for the repose of his soul, commencing at 9:30 a.m. Recitation of the Rosary, Tuesday, at 8:30 p.m. Interment, Golden Gate National Cemetery.
- Oakland Tribune, Tuesday, 26 May 1964: Alameda - Funeral services will be held tomorrow for James F. Peters, 56, of 548 Palace Court, who died Sunday at Martinez Veterans Administration Hospital after a long illness. A commercial artist for 30 years, Mr. Peters had paintings on exhibit at the Oakland Art Museum, the Alameda Free Library and Bay Area county fairs. He was a sign painter by profession, but did oil painting in his leisure time. He donated one of his paintings, a life size copy of Gainsborough's "Blue Boy," to the Heart Fund in 1952. Mr. Peters retired in 1953. A native of Boston, he attended the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, wrote poetry and had several of his works published in The Tribune. He was a member of the Sign Painter's Union, No. 878 of Oakland and the Alameda Art Association. Survivors include his widow, Margaret; two sons, James of San Jose and Joseph of Alameda; three daughters, Mrs. Timothy J. Rapley and Mary Peters of Alameda and Sister M. Naomi O.P. of Dominican Convent, San Rafael; one brother, Walter of Quincy, Mass.; and two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Devolder of Cape Cod, Mass. and Marguerite Peters, an Army Nurse. Services will be held at 9 a.m. at the Gothic Chapel of the Hagy-Keenan Mortuary, Central Avenue at Ninth Street. Requiem Mass will be offered at 9:30 a.m. at St. Barnabas Church, Sixth Street at Taylor Avenue, and Rosary will be recited tonight at 8:30 at the church.
