Albert Joseph Pitre: (photo) Pitre, Albert J., June 18, 1944, age 19. Albert Pitre was the son of Marie (Cormier) Pitre and the late Edmond Pitre of Canaan Station. He and his brother Augustin were both training at Camp Utopia near Fredericton when Albert was killed in an accident just before he was to go overseas. He had been home on leave and was taking Augustin's car to him when he was killed in a road accident June 18, 1944. Because both brothers were known as A. J. Pitre there was some confusion over who had died. Word of the accident reached Augustin when he returned from maneuvers and met shocked comrades who thought he had died. Albert Pitre was 19 years old when he was killed.
