Obituary:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Monday, 21 April 1975:  Joseph Eldron (Tee) Pitre, 59, retired welder, died at 4:40 a.m. today in Opelousas General Hospital after a one-month illness.  He is survived by his widow, the former Vernice Darbonne; one son, Earl Pitre of Opelousas; his step-mother, Mrs. Henry Pitre of Opelousas; two brothers, Aaron Pitre of Hodge and Waven Pitre of Opelousas; three sisters, Mrs. Lolita Lavergne of St. Martinville, Mrs. Leobelle Ortego of Lake Charles, Mrs. Vivian Lyons of Church Point, and three grandchildren.  Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. Heart Cemetery in Prairie Ronde under the direction of Lafond and Son Funeral Home.  A rosary will be said at 8:15 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Obituary:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Wednesday, 22 March 1961:  Opelousas Woman Drowns in Pond at Church Cemetery - Mrs. Eldron Pitre, 42, of 149 Bullard st., Opelousas, the former Alice Vige, drowned about 5 p.m. Tuesday in a pond at Our Lady of Mercy Church cemetery, according to City Detective Charlie Leger.  Dr. Don deBlanc, St. Landry parish coroner, ruled the death a suicide.  Mrs. Pitre had been missing from her home since 8 a.m. Tuesday, police said.  Her shoes, sweater and glasses were in a bag on the bank of the pond.  Police said she was in ill health.  A native of Prairie Ronde, Mrs. Pitre had resided here for 15 years.  She was a member of the Altar Society and League of the Sacred Heart of Our Lady of Mercy Church.  Her body is at Lafond and Son Funeral Home.  Services are to be held at 4 p.m. today at Our Lady of Mercy Church, with burial in the adjacent cemetery.  Mrs. Pitre is survived by her husband and one son, Earl Pitre, both of Opelousas.  Investigating the drowning, with Leger, were Chief Roland Chachere, Sgts. Calvin Folks and J.C. Billeaudeau of the city police, Sheriff D.J. Doucet and Deputy Harold Doucet.

Obituary:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Tuesday, 15 August 1995:  Funeral services for Mrs. Eldron Pitre, the former Vernice Darbonne, 80, will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Opelousas with burial in St. Ann's Cemetery in Mallet.  The Rev. Michael Russo will conduct the services.  Mrs. Pitre, a resident of Opelousas, died at 6 a.m. today (Tuesday, August 15, 1995) in Opelousas General Hospital.  She was a housewife.  Survivors include: a sister, Mrs. Lawrence (Lillian) Moreau of Opelousas.  Visiting hours will be held from 4 p.m. today until time of services on Wednesday.  A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m.  Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home on North Main in Opelousas is in charge of arrangements.

 

Obituary for the son:

Joseph Earl Pitre:   Opelousas - Joseph Earl Pitre, age 76 entered into eternal rest at Opelousas General Health System on Saturday, August 17, 2013.  He was born an only child to Eldron "Tit" Pitre and Alice Vige Pitre on June 20, 1937.  A memorial service will be held at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home on Hwy. 182, Opelousas, LA on Saturday, August 24, 2013, at 3:00 p.m., with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. and a rosary beginning at 1:30 p.m.  The service will be conducted by Father Dan Picard and Father Austin Leger officiating respectively.  Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Prairie Ronde, LA.  Earl was a graduate of O.H.S in 1957.  He worked at Buck's Exxon on Landry Street, Planters Bank and was an Auxiliary Policeman with the Opelousas Police Department.  He then went to work for Schlumberger Well Service as a senior operator until his retirement in 1989.  At the time of his death he was managing the Union Street Car Wash.  He was very involved in the community and was on the City of Opelousas Zoning/Planning Commission.  Someone once said "Earl may not always be right, but he was always consistent".  Anyone that knew him would have to agree.  Earl is survived by his wife of 54 years Barbara Young Pitre of Opelousas; his oldest daughter, Lisa Pitre Mistric, of Opelousas; his son, Scott Pitre and wife, Lynn Boudreaux Pitre, of Lafayette; his youngest daughter, Tiffiney Pitre Boudreaux and husband, Lt. Frank Boudreaux, of Ville Platte and four grandchildren, Collin Pitre, Danielle Mistric, Logan Pitre and Layla Marie Boudreaux.  He is also survived by one brother-in-law, Merlin (Helen) Young of Richard; his sisters-in-law, Deanna (Harold) Doucet of Moss Bluff; Debbie (Hugh) Guidry of Opelousas; a host of nieces and nephews and one special nephew, Blake Guidry.  He will also be missed by his close friends, Joel Lanclos, David Tabb, his friends at Donuts Galore and his group of friends at McDonald's in Ville Platte.  Earl also enjoyed spending time at Stelly's in LeBeau.  He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.  The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Hunt DeBlanc and to the nurses and staff at Opelousas General Health System.  Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas has been entrusted with the arrangements.
