Obituary:  Houma Courier, Tuesday, 14 October 1980:  Helise Plaisance Pitre, 73, a native of Larose and a resident of Galliano, died 6 a.m. Monday at Galliano.  Visitation is continuing until funeral time at Falgout Funeral Home, Inc., Galliano.  The funeral will be 9:30 a.m. Wednesday from the funeral home, with religious services following, 10 a.m. at the Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Golden Meadow.  Burial will be in Cheramie Cemetery.  Survivors include three sons, Dumas Jr., Edward J. and Easton P. Pitre; two daughters, Mrs. Josephine Guidry and Mrs. Lorida Serigny; three brothers, three sisters, 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Dumas Pitre; and a daughter, Mrs. Loretta Falgout.  Falgout Funeral Home, Inc., Galliano, is handling arrangements.

Josephine Olestine Pitre:  Lafourche Daily Comet, A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Golden Meadow for Josephine Pitre Guidry, 74, a native of Golden Meadow and resident of Liberty, Miss., who died at 7:46 p.m. Oct. 3, 2000.  Visitation will be from 3 until 10 p.m. today and 8 until 10:30 a.m. Friday at Samart Funeral Home in Cut Off.  Burial will be at Cheramie Cemetery in Galliano.  She was the wife of Herman Guidry; mother of Delaine Jane Dardar; and sister of Dumas Jr. and Easton Pitre and Lorida Serigny.  She is also survived by four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Dumas Sr. and Helise Plaisance Pitre; daughter, Kathleen Margaret Guidry; brother, Edward Pitre; and sister, Lorita Falgout.  Samart Funeral Home and Crematorium of Cut Off is in charge of the arrangements.

 

Lorida Pitre:  Lafourche Daily Comet, 25 January 2005:  Lorida Pitre Serigny, 77, a native and resident of Galliano, died Jan. 23, 2005.  A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. today at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Golden Meadow, with burial at Cheramie Cemetery.  She is survived by her son, Garrett Serigny; daughter and son-in-law, Rhondalyn and Lee Darville; daughter-in-law, Cindy Serigny; brothers, Dumas and Easton Pitre; grandchildren and their spouses, Kelly and Christopher Falgout; Jeaut'am and R.J. Guillotte, Gavin Porche, Lachelle Darville and Mariah Serigny; and great-grandchildren, Kelsi Serigny and Malaina Falgout.  She was preceded in death by husband, Magloris Serigny; companion, Adolph Bourgeois; parents, Dumas and Helise Plaisance Pitre; son, Bradley Serigny; daughter, Pamela Serigny; brother, Edward Pitre; and sisters, Lorita Falgout and Josephine Guidry.  Her passions included family and friends, gardening and finding humor in everything.  Samart Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Dumas Max Pitre:  Lafourche Daily Comet:  Dumas "John" M. Pitre Jr., 81, a native and resident of Golden Meadow, died at 2:05 p.m. Sunday, July 24, 2011.  Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to funeral time Wednesday at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church.  Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with burial at Cheramie Cemetery in Galliano.  He is survived by three sons, David Pitre and wife, Sandra Griffin Pitre, Ronald Pitre and wife, Peggy Eschette Pitre, and Alan Pitre; three daughters, Gail Griffin and husband, Jimmie, Jeanne Rodrigue and husband, Steve, and Patty Cheramie and husband, Teddy; one brother, Easton Pitre and wife, Mildred Cheramie Pitre; family friend, Jack Clifton; 11 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Alzina "Lasur" Guidry Pitre; his parents, Dumas Pitre Sr. and Helise P. Edward Joseph Pitre:  Lafourche Daily Comet:  A religious service took place at 11 a.m. today at Christian Fellowship Church in Larose for Edward J. Pitre, 64, a native of Golden Meadow and resident of Galliano, who died at 12:20 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28 (1995).  Burial was in Cheramie Cemetery in Galliano.  He was the husband of Regina Hodge Pitre; father of Donald P. Pitre, Joycelyn P. Cheramie, Debbie P. Hornback and Jackie P. Breaux; brother of Dumas Jr. and Easton Pitre, Josephine Guidry and Lorida Serigny.  He is also survived by six grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Dumas Sr. and Helise Plaisance Pitre; and a sister, Lorita Falgout.  Falgout Funeral Home of Galliano was in charge of arrangements.

Easton Joseph Pitre:  The Advocate (Baton Rouge, LA), Tuesday, 19 May 2020:  Easton Joseph Pitre, a lifelong resident of Golden Meadow, left this earth for eternal life with his Creator, on May 13, 2020 at 11:15 p.m.  He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mildred Cheramie Pitre; son, Jed Michael and daughter-in-law, Robbin; two granddaughters, Andree' Margaret Long (Brian) and Emilee Lynne Guidry (Taylor); great-grandsons, Brayson Long and Henry Guidry; great-granddaughter, Heidi Nicole Guidry and future great-grandbaby, Long and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and godchildren.  He was 87.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Dumas J. and Helise Plaisance Pitre; sisters, Josephine (Phin) P. Guidry (Herman), Lorida (Bab) P. Serigny (Margloris), Lorita (Poon) P. Falgout (Albert); brothers, Dumas "John" (Alzina "Lasur") and Edward (Regina); paternal grandparents, Voltaire and Laura Toups Pitre; maternal grandparents, Olivier and Cecelia Bouvier Plaisance.  He was also preceded in death by his foster parents of 25 years, Horace and Dumacia Pitre Dantin, adopted foster sister, Geraldine Dantin Naquin of Pointe Aux Chenes, foster sisters, Victoria D. Smail (Harold) of Ellenton, FL, Earline D. Wasko (Roy) of Dickerson, TX and great-granddaughter, Haylee Marie Guidry.  As an employee of 34 years with the Lafourche Parish School System, Pitre served as teacher/coach at Golden Meadow High School, South Lafourche High School's first assistant principal, staff supervisor in transportation, finance, insurance and data processing, and retired as system superintendent in 1988.  His service to the school system was interrupted twice, once to serve his country in the U.S. Army for two years and again to further his studies.  The local chamber selected Pitre for its first Lifetime Achievement Award in Education in 1992.  He was a board member of the Louisiana Association of School Superintendents-Retired, member Lafourche Parish Retired Teachers and Louisiana Retired Teachers.  Pitre served his home church parish, Our Lady of Prompt Succor, on its first parish council for 8 years and later for another 6 years term, serving as vice-president and president.  He was an original lector and commentator for masses, member of the finance committee, chairman of the church's Bull Club Fair as its first Super Bull, chairman of the Vocations committee for 11 years and was a member of the Holy Name Society.  In 1991, he received a papal honor, Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice medal, from Pope John Paul II.  Pitre was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus, serving as Grand Knight of Council #3150 of Cut Off and Faithful Navigator of St. Pius X Assembly of the 4th degree.  He was a charter member of Council #3743 of Baton Rouge and Council #9000 of Golden Meadow, where was currently a member.  He served the State Council as chairman of numerous state committees from 1973 to 1982, State Secretary, 1982-84 and State Deputy 1984-86 and was appointed to serve as Master of the Louisiana District of the 4th degree 1988-90.  Pitre joined the knights in 1953 and became a 4th degree in 1956.  He was awarded with the Order of Merit from the Louisiana District 4th Degree in 2019.  Pitre was invested into membership for the Order of the Fleur de Lis, a Catholic fraternity of five states -LA, ARK, TN, ALA, MS- in 1991.  He served as Grand Almoner from 1991-1997 and Vice Grand Chancellor from 1998-2003.  In 2016, the Board of Governors named him an Honorary Life Member.  His community received his service, three terms on the board of Tidelands Country Club, twice as president, co-founder of the Golden Meadow Kids Basketball program.  Member of the town's Zoning Commission, 24 years with the recreation department, charter chairman of Lafourche Parish Crimestoppers, and as a fundraiser for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and was a member of American Legion Post 259.  Pitre's family, church, country and vocation were his priorities, but his love for LSU was never questioned.  After graduating from LSU's Nicholls Junior College, he attended the university in Baton Rouge where he received three degrees.  He made all football games, home and away, all home basketball games, some away, most home baseball games and attended periodically for other LSU sporting events.  He was a member of the LSU Alumni Association, Tiger Athletic Foundation, LSU Gridiron Club, LSU Golden Tigers and Bayou Bengals Tigers.  He enjoyed traveling, having been to all 50 states and 15 countries.  A private graveside burial will be held at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Golden Meadow with Father John Nambusseril presiding.  A memorial service will be held at a future date to celebrate his life.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Golden Meadow for masses in his name or the Bishop Greco Foundation are preferred.  Samart-Mothe Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

- Daily Comet (Thibodaux, LA), Tuesday, 2 June 2020:  (Staff Writer Dan Copp) REMEMBERING: Easton Pitre Lafourche educator remembered as 'wonderful teacher' with a 'big heart' - Lafourche Parish recently lost an influential educator and luminary.  Easton Joseph Pitre, a lifelong resident of Golden Meadow, died May 13.  He was 87.  Pitre served the Lafourche Parish School District for 34 years in various roles, including superintendent, teacher, administrator and coach.  He was South Lafourche High School's first assistant principal and worked as a staff supervisor in transportation, finance, insurance and data processing.  School Board member Ray Bernard said Pitre was a dedicated and passionate educator who loved his community.  Larose resident John Serigny said he had Pitre as his geometry teacher at Golden Meadow High and later as an assistant principal at South Lafourche High School.  "He was a wonderful teacher, administrator, Lafourche Parish School Board staff member and ended his long career of public service as superintendent of Lafourche Parish Schools," Serigny said.  "His passing is a tremendous loss to the South Lafourche community.  He will be sorely missed."  Golden Meadow native Lilly Collins Riera said Pitre was a community role model.  "He was one of those men in my childhood that controlled a room but always had a smile," she said.  Carolyn Robert, of Larose, said Pitre had an unwavering passion for education.  "Such a tragic loss," she said.  "He was a great educator, vice principal, superintendent, father, grandfather and husband.  He always looked so serious, but yet had such a big heart."  He graduated from LSU's Nicholls Junior College in Thibodaux, now Nicholls State University.  He then attended LSU in Baton Rouge, where he earned three degrees.  A U.S. Army veteran, Pitre retired as superintendent in 1988.  He was a recipient of the Lafourche Chamber of Commerce's Lifetime Achievement Award in Education in 1992 and served on several boards, including the Louisiana Association of School Superintendents-Retired, Lafourche Parish Retired Teachers and Louisiana Retired Teachers.  He was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus and won multiple honors and accolades in the organization over the years.  Pitre was co-founder of the Golden Meadow Kids Basketball program and was a member of the town's Zoning Commission.  He served 24 years with the Lafourche Recreation Department and was a leader of Lafourche Parish Crimestoppers.  He was involved with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and served on the American Legion.  Pitre leaves behind a wife of 60 years, a son, two granddaughters and a host of other family members.
