Obituary:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Friday, 29 December 1978:  Prairie Ronde - Funeral services are incomplete but will be held Saturday in the First Baptist Church here for Curley Pitre, 71, resident of Mamou, who died at 12 a.m. today at his residence following a long illness.  Burial will be in the church cemetery directed by Ardoin's Funeral Home of Mamou.  Survivors include his wife, the former Selida Bertrand of Mamou; two sons, Elvin Pitre of Pine Prairie and Rufus Pitre of Beggs; five daughters, Mrs. Elvin Fontenot, Mrs. Daniel Fontenot, Mrs. Jene Johnson and Mrs. Anthony Perron, all of Mamou, and Mrs. Donald Guillory of Pine Prairie; one brother, Austin Pitre of Eunice; four sisters, Mrs. Melvin Manuel, Mrs. Marshall Dupre, Mrs. Eugene Havel and Mrs. Wilfred Ryder, all of Eunice; 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Obituary:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Tuesday, 20 November 1990:  Mamou - Funeral services for Mrs. Joseph Curley Pitre, the former Celida Bertrand, 85, will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the First Baptist Church here with burial in the Baptist cemetery in Prairie Ronde.  Mrs. Pitre, a resident of Mamou, died at 8:45 p.m. Monday in Savoy Medical Center in Mamou.  Survivors include: two sons, Elvin Pitre of Pine Prairie and Rufus Pitre of Beggs; five daughters, Mary Lou Johnson, Maynola Fontenot, Etheline Fontenot and Enola Perron, all of Mamou, and Anna Lee Bare of Easton; a brother, Albert Bertrand of Ville Platte; two sisters, Mrs. Pearl Fontenot and Mrs. Ruby Granger, both of Opelousas; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.  Ardoin's Funeral Home of Mamou is in charge of arrangements.

Elvin Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Wednesday, 27 April 1994:  Mamou - Funeral services for Mr. Elvin Pitre, 66, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in Ardoin's Funeral Home Chapel here with burial in Ortego Cemetery in Lanse Griese.  Mr. Pitre, a resident of Pine Prairie, died at 8:09 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, in Savoy Medical Center in Mamou.  Survivors include: His wife, Anna Belle Pitre of Pine Prairie; a brother, Rufus Pitre of Leonville; four sisters, Maynola Fontenot, Anna Fontenot and Mary Lou Johnson, all of Mamou, and Annie Lee Dare of Easton.  Visiting hours are from 10 a.m. today until time of services on Thursday.  Ardoin's Funeral Home of Mamou is in charge of arrangements.

Rufus Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Thursday, 18 September 2008:  (photo) Opelousas - Funeral services for Rufus Pitre, 78, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 18, 2008, in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas, followed by interment in the St. Leo the Great Catholic Church Cemetery.  The Rev. Austin Leger will conduct the Mass of Christian Burial.  Mr. Pitre who was a native of Prairie Ronde and a resident of Arnaudville, died at 5:40 a.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2008, in the J. Michael Morrow Nursing Home in Arnaudville.  He was a carpenter and painter by trade and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.  Survivors include his daughters, Darlene Theriot and husband, Corey, ofYoungsville, Melissa Pitre, of Leonville, and step-daughter, Susie Bergeron and husband, Jay, of Leonville; step-sons, John Ray Lalonde and wife, Lorna, of Cecilia, and Kenneth Lalonde, of Opelousas; a sister, Mrs. Annie Lee Pitre, of Pine Prairie; 12 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.  Mr. Pitre was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Guillory Pitre; his parents, Curley and Celida Bertrand Pitre; a brother, Elvin Pitre, four sisters, Enola Perron, Manola Fontenot, Anna Fontenot, and Mary Lou Johnson.  Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Wednesday from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. and re-open at 9 a.m. Thursday.  A rosary service held at 7 p.m. Wednesday.  Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas.

Maynola Pitre:  The Ville Platte Gazette (Ville Platte, LA), Sunday, 30 December 2007:  Maynola Pitre Fontenot, July 24, 1939 - December 27, 2007:  Mamou - Funeral services were held for Maynola Pitre Fontenot, 68, of Mamou, at First Baptist Church in Mamou at 2 p.m., Friday, December 28.  Burial followed in the Ortego Cemetery.  Mrs. Fontenot died at 3:30 a.m. Thursday, December 27, 2007, at Savoy Medical Center in Mamou.  She was a member of First Baptist Church in Mamou.  Survivors include her husband, Elvin J. Fontenot of Mamou; one son, Bobby K. Fontenot of Mamou, one brother, Rufus Pitre of Arnaudville; one sister, Annie Lee Pitre of Pine Prairie; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Curley and Celida Pitre; one brother, Elvin Pitre, and three sisters, Enola Perron, Anna Fontenot and Mary Lou Johnson.  Brother Ervin Goodman officiated.  Ardoin's Funeral Home of Mamou was in charge of arrangements.

 

Etheline Pitre:  The Town Talk (Alexandria, LA), Monday, 27 March 2000:  Mamou - Services for Etheline Fontenot will be at 11 a.m. today in First Baptist Church, Mamou.  Burial will be in Ortego Cemetery under direction of Ardoin's, Mamou.  Fontenot, 58, of Mamou, died Saturday, March 25, 2000, in her residence.  She was a homemaker.  Survivors include her husband, Daniel Fontenot of Mamou; two sons, Mitchell Fontenot and Steven Fontenot, both of Mamou; one daughter, Tammy Fontenot of Mamou; one brother, Rufus Pitre of Leonville; two sisters, Maynolia Fontenot of Mamou and Anna Lee Bare of Easton; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  Friends may call today until time of services in the church. 

 

Mary Lou Pitre:  The Ville Platte Gazette (Ville Platte, LA), Thursday, 30 December 1999:  Mrs. Gene Johnson, June 12, 1947 - December 24, 1999:  Easton - Funeral services were held for Mrs. Gene Johnson, the former Mary Lou Pitre, 52, of Mamou at First Baptist Church of Mamou at 11 a.m., Saturday, December 25.  Burial followed in the Ortego Cemetery in Easton.  A homemaker, Mrs. Johnson died at 12:50 a.m., Friday, December 24, 1999, at her residence in Mamou after a long illness.  Survivors include her husband, Mr. Gene Johnson of Mamou; her son, Mr. Randy David Johnson of Mamou; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Angela) McGee and Mrs. Karen Duplechin both of Mamou; one brother, Rufus Pitre of Leonville; one sister, Mrs. Anna Lea Bare of Pine Prairie; 16 grandchildren.  Ardoin's Funeral Home of Mamou was in charge of arrangements.
