Joseph Franklin Petrie:   Joseph F. Petrie, 67, died October 16, 1997, in Melville Lodge, Halifax. Born in Dartmouth, he was a son the late Adelard and Margaret (Roy) Petrie.  He served in the Merchant Navy during the Second World War and was employed with the Halifax Shipyards for 49 years.  Surviving are his wife, the former Martha Hickman; son, John, Halifax; brother, Lawrence, Bayside; sisters, Betty Therrien, New Minas; Ruth McMinn, Halifax; Marie Banyan, Los Angeles, Calif.; two grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by brothers, Arnold, Edward, Hector, Wilfred; sisters, Eva, Ethel, Dolly, Doris.

Marie Teresa Petrie:  Edmonton Journal (Edmonton, Alberta), Wednesday, 24 June 2009:  (photo)  It is with heavy hearts the family of Marie Banyan announce her passing on Friday, June 19, 2009 after long struggle with Alzheimer's.  Marie is survived by her husband Art of 39 years, daughter Joanna (Sidney) Poitier, two granddaughters; Anika and Sydney, brother Lawrence Petrie, as well as numerous family and friends.  She was predeceased by her parents Adelard Joseph and Marguerite and eleven brothers and sisters.  A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, June 26, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Joseph's Basilica, Edmonton, AB.  Marie will be laid to rest on Sunday, June 28, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at the Forever Hollywood Cemetery in California.  Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society.

Petrie, 67, died peacefully at home after a courageous battle with cancer on April 4, 1997.  Born in Halifax, he was a son of Adelard and Margaret (Roy) Petrie.  He was employed at the Halifax Shipyards for most of his life.  He also worked for Halifax Metal Workers and had his own business, W. J. Petrie Overhead Doors & Miscellaneous Steel.  He was a member of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Dartmouth.  He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of 45 years, Gladys (Rodgers); seven children, Ronald, Dartmouth; Lawrence, Kennetcook; Lynda (Mrs. Ronald Naugle), Mount Uniacke; Theresa (Mrs. David Griffin), Ellershouse; Edward, Dartmouth; Joseph, Shad Bay; Danny, Dartmouth; brothers, Frank, Lawrence, both of Halifax; sisters, Betty Therrien, New Minas; Ruth McMinn, Halifax; Marie Banyan, Los Angeles; 17 grandchildren, who he loved dearly.  He was predeceased by his mother and father; brothers, Arnold, Edward, Hector; sisters, Eva, Ethel, Dolly, Doris.
