Obituary:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Sunday, 6 May 1984:  Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the St. Peters Roman Catholic Church in Grand Prairie for Mr. Henry "Yan" Pitre, 76, who died at 9:30 p.m. Friday at Opelousas General Hospital after a short illness.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Survivors include his wife, the former Ivy Ortego of Grand Prairie; a son, Mervin Pitre of Opelousas; a daughter, Mrs. Lionel (Robbie) Briley of Opelousas; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by a son, James Curtis.  The Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home on North Main in charge of arrangements.

Obituary:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Friday, 26 January 2001:  (photo included) Grand Prairie - Funeral services for Mrs. Ivy Ortego Pitre, 87, will be held at 4 p.m. today in St. Peters Catholic Church here with burial in the church cemetery.  Msgr. Louis Melancon will conduct the services.  Mrs. Pitre, a resident of Grand Prairie, died at 10:55 p.m. Wednesday, January 24, 2001, in Opelousas General Hospital.  She was a housewife.  Mrs. Pitre was very active in her church where she served as an altar server, and acted as Sacristan for St. Peters Catholic Church.  For her work in and for the church she was the recipient of the Monsignor Sigur Award.  She was the Lapin Festival Queen.  Survivors include: a daughter, Mrs. Robbie Briley of Opelousas; two sisters, Mrs. Luna Fontenot of Ville Platte and Mrs. Agnes Jones of St. Landry; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.  Mrs. Pitre was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Pitre; two sons, Curtis Pitre and Mervin Pitre; and her parents, Armand and Onezia Fontenot Ortego.  Visiting hours were observed from 4 to 10 p.m. Thursday and from 8 a.m. today until time of services. A rosary was recited at 6:30 p.m. Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home on the Old Sunset Road in Opelousas is in charge of arrangements.

James Curtis Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Monday, 19 May 1975:  James Curtis Pitre, part-owner of the D&P Grocery in Opelousas, was found dead this morning in a room at the Rainbow Motel west of town.  He was the victim of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, authorities said.  St. Landry Parish Sheriff's deputies were called to the motel at 1:54 a.m. today.  Pitre, 40, was pronounced dead at the scene by parish coroner Dr. A.E. Williams.  According to chief deputy L. B. Carriere, the matter was still under investigation as of mid-morning.  Funeral services for Pitre will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church with burial in Bellevue Memorial Park, under the direction of Lafond & Son Funeral Home.  A rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.  He is survived by his widow, the former Patsy Dupre; three sons, James Creighton, Carl Gerald and Neil Byron Pitre, all of Opelousas; two daughters, Karen Lynn and Nelanie Kay Pitre, both of Opelousas; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry F. Pitre of Grand Prairie; one brother, Mervin Pitre of Opelousas and one sister, Mrs. Lionel Briley of Opelousas.

 

Mervin Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Sunday, 26 November 1995:  Grand Prairie - Funeral services for Mervin Pitre, 58, will be held at 2 p.m. today at St. Peter's Catholic Church, with burial in the church cemetery.  Mr. Pitre, a resident of Opelousas, died at 5:50 a.m. Friday, Nov. 24, 1995, at the Prompt Succor Nursing Home in Opelousas.  Visitation will open today at 7 a.m. The Rev. Randy Moreau will conduct services.  Survivors include: his mother, Mrs. Henry (Ivy Ortego) Pitre of Grand Prairie; one son, Michael Pitre of Dallas, Texas; two daughters, Mrs. Tammy Duplechain and Mrs. Lisa Wilhide, both of Dallas, Texas; one sister, Mrs. Robbie Briley of Opelousas; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home on North Main Street in Opelousas is in charge of arrangements.
