Diana Joy Pitre: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 10 am at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home for Diana Joy Pitre Savoy, 82, who passed into the arms of our Heavenly Father on Thursday, January 17, 2013 in Phoenix, Arizona. Family and friends mourn her unexpected passing. Inurnment will follow in Fountain Memorial Cemetery in Lafayette. Father Gil Dutel of St. Edmond Catholic Church will officiate. Diana was born in Opelousas, LA to her late parents Henry N. and Lessie Lavergne Pitre, Sr. She graduated from Opelousas High School and attended the School of Nursing in New Orleans, LA. Diana married Frank Joseph Savoy, Sr. and moved to Lafayette and raised a family of five children. Diana began a new career as a Gemologist working in fine jewelry for The Sweeney Co., Godchaux's and ultimately retiring from Maison Blanche, where she met and made many new friends! She developed an interest in antiques, and subsequently became an antique dealer with her friends at Pinhook Flea Market. She was very successful at turning junk into shiny treasures! In 2004, she moved to Denver, CO to be near her son Frank, Jr., but the climate was not good for her - too cold! In 2005, she moved to Phoenix, AZ to be near her daughter Annette. She loved the desert! It is there that she grew further into the antiques business, maintaining two booths and a glass case filled with treasures! 'Diana had a passion for collecting and it showed! She did an amazing job displaying her collections so nicely in her booths,' as was complimented by Brenda, manager of Merchant Square where Diana was a merchant for eight years. A Memorial service was held at Merchant Square on February 12, 2013, where family and friends gathered to celebrate her life and share many sweet memories of Diana. A minister performed a prayer service, and afterwards, cake and punch was served in celebration and in memory of Diana. Diana was a loving and giving Mother and friend, and though her time with us on earth was cut short, her spirit lives on in our hearts. Her presence in our lives will be missed but she will be remembered forever. Diana is survived by her two brothers, Henry Pitre, Jr. and wife, Lea Ray of Starkville, MS and Robert Pitre and wife, Linda of New Hampshire; sister, Jacqueline Pitre Conque of Baton Rouge; five children, Annette Savoy Ford and husband, Denny of Phoenix, AZ, Jeff Savoy and wife, Jodi of Lafayette, Greg Savoy and wife, Tammy of South Carolina and Frank Savoy Jr. and wife, Leigh of Denver, CO.
