- Saturday, 29 November 1930, Boston Herald (MA):  5 Holyoke boys and machine held - Accident on Long Island halts trip to coast:  Hempstead, L.I., Nov. 28:  Five Holyoke, Mass. youths who left their native city in a stolen automobile bound for California, find themselves here facing charges of leaving the scene of an accident, and grand larceny.  The automobile, it was learned, was the property of a policeman from Holyoke.  All waived extradition and will be returned to the Massachusetts authorities tonight.  The prisoners, who described themselves as Harvey Peets, 17, his brother, Alfred, 15, Arthur J.G. Archambault, 16, Arthur Borland, 18, and John Rowowski, 14, were arrested by Motorcycle Patrolman Joseph Smith, after he had chased them several blocks and forced them over to the curb.  Smith declared that he saw the Massachusetts automobile strike one owned by Horace Kyser of this village, and try to speed away.  Taken to the station house, Lt. John L. Feely says Peets tried to identify himself as Patrick Bowler of Holyoke, the registered owner of the machine.  On questioning, however, he admitted he had stolen it from the policeman at 5:30 this morning, Lt. Feely declared.  On the way from Holyoke, the police say, the youths confessed to having robbed a candy stand in Connecticut, because they were hungry, and wanted to husband their limited assets until they reached California and got jobs there.

- Thursday, 2 July 1931, Springfield Republican (MA):  Holyoke - Harvey Peets gets Reformatory term - sentenced for stealing car - companion is given suspended sentence:  Holyoke, July 1 - Harvey Peets of 23 North East street received a direct sentence to the Massachusetts reformatory when he pleaded guilty to a charge of larceny of an automobile on being arraigned before Judge John Hildreth in district court this morning.  Maurice Fizsit of 553 South Summer street pleaded guilty in a similar offense and he was given a suspended sentence to the reformatory.  The two were brought back to this city last night by Detective Sergeant Peter Manning and Acting Detective Raymond Louden from Darien, CT., where they had been arrested.  The machine which the two stole Monday night from the intersection of Commercial street and Worcester place, was owned by Stanley Kolpa of 33 Front street.  They told the police that they were on their way to New York city when a bearing in the car burned out.  The lads were sleeping in the car when they were picked up by the police.  Less than a year ago Peets was in the district court for taking an automobile without proper authority and about a month ago was in on an assault charge.

Peter J. Manning of the detective bureau.  A brace of 22 caliber revolvers were found in the hallway of the South Holyoke building but the men denied having knowledge of the owners of the guns.  Peets, according to police, has a police record in New York as well as here.

Bellerose of 565 South Canal street were committed for three months each when they pleaded guilty to similar charges.  The arrest of the trio was the culmination of work done by the detective bureau investigating the break at the Valley arena the night of July 4 when $80 worth of merchandise comprising cigarets and cigars was taken from the Arena.
