Obituary for the son:

Gilbert Henry Peters:  Daily Monitor Leader (Mount Clemens, MI), Monday, 25 May 1942:  Crash Fatal to Man, Girl - Motorbike Hits Telephone Pole:  A 32-year-old Detroit man and his 21-year-old companion, the estranged wife of another Detroiter, are dead today after their racing motorcycle failed to negotiate a sharp North River road curve at 8 p.m. Saturday.  The dead: Gilbert Peters, 32, 2629 Montclair, Mrs. Betty DeGain, 21, French road.  Peters died instantly of a broken neck while internal injuries proved fatal eight hours later to Mrs. DeGain at St. Joseph's hospital.  The latter was not identified until 12 hours later.  Sheriff deputies said the speedometer on the motorcycle owned by Peters' brother-in-law, Neil Constantino, now in the army, had locked at 75 miles-per-hour.  The vehicle left the road near the Southeastern Sugar company's plant and crashed into a tree.  Peters' father, Henry, and his wife, Angeline, identified his body at the William C. Sperlich mortuary in Center Line, early Sunday.  They had no children.  Deputies were temporarily stumped in their efforts to identify Mrs. DeGain, finding only two snapshots in her clothing.  Finally, her father-in-law, Joseph Martin, effected the identification at the LaCroix and Groesbeck Funeral Home.  He said Mrs. DeGain had not been living with her husband, Donald, or his three-year-old daughter, Virginia.  Peters was a defense worker employed by Chrysler at its East Jefferson plant.
