MISC: Le Progres de l'Est, 19 September 1905: Stanstead - Geo. Lepitre, from Rock Island, an employee at the Butterfield factories, had a hand horribly mutilated and almost completely torn off while operating a faulty machine. He is under the care of Dr. Stckwell.

Obituary: The Stanstead Journal (Stanstead, QUE), Thursday, 4 December 1919: Mrs. George Lepetre died at her home in this place Sunday night. She had been in failing health for some time, but her final illness was of short duration. Her death was caused by a complication of cold, asthma and heart trouble. The family formerly lived on the New Boston road, four miles from Stanstead, but Mrs. Lepetre had been a resident of Rock Island several years. The funeral took place here on Wednesday.

Albert Joseph Lepitre: The Stanstead Journal (Stanstead, QUE), 1 March 1934: The body of Bert Joseph Lepetre arrived here Monday noon, and was placed in the vault at the old Roman Catholic Cemetery at Stanstead to await burial in Mount St. Mary's Cemetery in the spring. Bert Lepetre was born in Stanstead Feb. 21, 1878, having just passed his fifty-sixth birthday. He was well-known in this vicinity, having spent nearly all his life here. His last venture at Rock Island was in connection with a milk route which he operated from his premises on Railroad street. In 1927 he sold out, left town, and later on went to Caledonia County, Vermont. Latterly he had lived in a lumber shack near Waterford Mountain, two miles from a highway and two and a half miles from any other habitation. He went to town Wednesday February 7, and returning at night, was unable to locate his matches, so threw himself on his straw bed without building a fire. When he awoke next day both feet were frozen and he was practically helpless while the temperature outside ran to twenty or thirty degrees below zero for days. On the following Sunday, the eleventh, he was found, half starved, half frozen, by Henry McKinstry of St. Johnsbury, a wood customer. Dr. D. E. Sheffield of St. Johnsbury, with Edward R. French, drove as far as they could then ploughed their way to the shack through the drifts. Bound to the front bob of a double sled, Lepetre was drawn out of the woods, placed in a car and driven to Brightlook Hospital. Gangrene was already doing its deadly work and both legs were amputated 16 inches above the heel. This, however, failed to arrest the disease and finally a hemorrhage of the right stump brought his awful suffering to an end on Friday night. The funeral was held in the R. C. Church, St. Johnsbury, at 9 o'clock, Monday morning. A sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bede Powers of Island Pond, accompanied the body to this place, arriving here by the mid-day train. Surviving members of this family are a brother, George Lepetre of Graniteville, and three sisters, Gertrude (Mrs. Charles Fox) of Stanstead, Mrs. Powers, and Josephine (Mrs. Berker) of Lisbon, N.H.
Alice (Cor)delia Lepitre: The Newport Daily Express (Newport, VT), Monday, 20 July 1936: Alice C. Powers, 48 years of age, wife of Bede M. Powers, residing on Third street, passed away suddenly Saturday evening following a stroke of paralysis. Funeral services will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock. The deceased was born in Stanstead, Que., July 6, 1888, daughter of Matilda Uppe and George LaPetrie. She is survived by her husband, a mechanic at the Raymond Blake garage, also two daughters. Burial will take place in the Catholic cemetery.
