Obituary: The Courier (Houma, LA), Wednesday, 6 February 1991: (photo) Gilton Joseph Pitre, 83, a native and a resident of Houma, died at 12:20 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 1991. Visitation will be today from 5 to 10 p.m. and Thursday from 8 a.m. until funeral time at the Chauvin Funeral Home. A Mass will be said at 10 a.m. at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Houma with interment in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Marie Oncale Pitre of Houma; one son Reynold J. Pitre of Houma; two stepsons, Kenneth Allemand of Raceland and Michael Allemand of Lockport; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Edward (Dorothy) LeBouef of Houma, and Mrs. Clifford (Judy) Bonvillian of Lockport; one brother, Louis Pitre of Houma; three sisters, Mrs. Amos (Bessie) Melancon, Mrs. Justilien (Agnes) Pitre, both of Houma, and Mrs. John (Elizabeth) Baus of Trenton, N.J.; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife Lena Authement; his parents Herbert and Mary Babin Pitre; one son Alton J. Pitre; one brother, Willis Pitre; and two sisters, Mrs. Sidney (Helen) Klingman and Mrs. Odressie (Olivia) Pitre. He was a parishioner of Holy Rosary Catholic Church of Houma.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. until funeral time Friday at Chauvin Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be said at 2 p.m. Friday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Gilton Joseph Pitre; two sons, Alton J. and Reynold J. Pitre, both of Houma; two brothers, James "Jimmy" and Isreal Authement, both of Chauvin; three sisters, Mrs. Sidney (Adele) Cantrell, Mrs James (Hazel) Pitre, and Mrs James (Mildred) Shadduck, all of Houma; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marcel J. and Henrietta Chaisson Authement; five brothers, George, Wilfred, Wilson, Jackson and Harry Authement; and one sister, Mrs Edward (Edna) Price. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W., he was a Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus, he was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp, he was a Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary and Mason DeVille every other Sunday for 10 years. He retired from Halliburton after 23 years of service. He also was a volunteer for the Food Bank and was also their manager for 21 years. He is estimated to have served over fifty thousand people during his 21 years of service. He was dedicated and loved his work. He was a fun loving person, wonderful husband, and great father. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all of his volunteers.
Alton Joseph Pitre: The Courier (Houma, LA), Friday, 13 October 1989: Alton Joseph Pitre, 61, a native of Terrebonne Parish and a resident of Houma, died at noon Thursday. Visitation will be from 2 p.m.-10 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. until funeral time Saturday at the Chauvin Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church with burial following in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Josie Hebert Pitre of Houma; his father, Gilton Pitre of Houma; two sons, Kerry Pitre of Bayou Blue and Corey Pitre of Houma; two daughters, Sonja LeCompte of Bourg and Joretta LeBoeuf of Raceland; a brother, Reynold Pitre of Houma and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lena Authement Pitre. He was a World War II veteran. Chauvin Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
