MISC: Houston Post-Dispatch (Houston, TX), Tuesday, 20 July 1926: Port Arthur - Garland Pitre, 9-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Avrar Pitre of this city, lost his eye in an accident at Lawtell, La., when a shot from a "ni**er-shooter" pierced the eyeball. The boy was on a visit to his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Clovis Pitre of Lawtell, and several boys were playing with him at the time the accident occurred. He was taken to St. Rita's infirmary at Opelousas, but every effort to save his eye failed.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Angelina Pitre; grandson, Eddie Potts; son-in-law, Dean Potts; brothers, Andrew, Clayton, and I. J. Pitre; sisters, Romanell Borne, and Barbara Jennings. He is survived by 7 children and spouses, Edie Potts, David and Jane Pitre, Evard Pitre, Lynda Tanner, Karen and Larry Schooley, Donna Minter, Garry and Diane Pitre, 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren; brothers, Francis Pitre, Richard Pitre; and sister, Katherine Clarke. The family will receive guests from 5-9 p.m. Sunday, July 20, 2003 at Grand View Funeral Home with a Rosary service beginning at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 21, 2003 at Grand View Funeral Home with Deacon Robert Stevens officiating. Interment will follow at Grand View Memorial Park.
