Mr. Peters and the former Leah LeBlanc were married July 30, 1923 at St. Joseph's Church. They have five children Mrs. Cecile Thomas of Fitchburg, Mrs. Jacqueline Rivard of Ashby, Mrs. Claire Schrock of Townsend, John Peters of Lunenburg and Donald Peters of Fitchburg. They also have 19 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Mr. Peters retired from Raytheon Co. in Bedford six years ago. Family and friends attended from Fitzwilliam, Milford and East Jaffrey, N.H. and Wilmington, Mass. They were presented gifts and money.
Obituary: The Evening Gazette (Worcester, MA), Thursday, 14 December 1978: Fitchburg - Gilbert J. Peters, 75, of 631 Rollstone Road died yesterday in Burbank Hospital. He leaves his wife, Leah (LeBlanc) Peters; three daughters, Cecile, wife of Leo Thomas of Fitchburg, Jacqueline Rivard of Ashby, and Claire, wife of Donald Schrock of Townsend; two sons, John J. Peters of Lunenburg, and Donald S. Peters of Newton; 19 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, and two nieces. Born in Fairfield, Maine, he was a son of John and Almenie (Fontaine) Peters, and lived in Fitchburg 60 years. Mr. Peters was a machine tool rebuilder at Raytheon Corp., retiring 11 years ago. He was a Navy veteran of World War I. A memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph's Church. His body will be donated to Harvard Medical School. There are no calling hours. Aubuchon Funeral Home is directing arrangements. The family requests flowers be omitted and suggests memorial donations may be sent instead to Fitchburg Center for Brain Injured Children.

(LeBlanc) Peters, 91, of 631 Rollstone Road, a onetime hospital cook, died yesterday in Leominster Hospital after a short illness. Her husband, Gilbert J. Peters, died in 1978. She leaves two sons, Donald S. Peters of Leominster and John G. Peters of Lunenbug; three daughters, Cecile Thomas of Rindge, N.H., Claire Schrock of Jefferson, Maine, and Jackie Gauthier of Bucksport, Maine; a sister, Liza Chabotte of Fitchburg; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. She was born in Fitchburg, daughter of Edward and Cecile (Legere) LeBlanc. Mrs. Peters was once a cook at Fitchburg General Hospital and Mount Elam Nursing Home for many years. She was a communicant of St. Camillus de Lellis Church. A funeral Mass will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday in St. Camillus de Lellis Church, 333 Mechanic St. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Louis M. Isabelle Funeral Home, 316 Clarendon St. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, Fitchburg.

She is survived by her brother Donald Peters of Keene, NH and her brother John Peters of Lunenburg, Massachusetts. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years Leo G. Thomas, also known as Grumpy to the grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her son Daniel V. Thomas of Spencer, Mass., sister Jacqueline Rivard of Ashby, Mass. and her sister Claire Schrock of Maine. She was born in Fitchburg, Mass. on March 26, 1926 to Gilbert J. Peters and Lea Peters. She leaves behind many family members including her children John G. Thomas of Naples, Fla., Rebecca A. Hutchinson of Winston-Salem N.C., Michele Thomas of Mont Vernon, NH, Mark A. Thomas of Columbia, MO., and Donald S. Thomas of Raynam, Mass. MeiMei, as she was affectionately known to her grandchildren, had 12 grandchildren,19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. She was active in the Fitchburg Seventh Day Adventist Church in both Fitchburg and Gardner, Mass. The family will have a Celebration of Life service on August 28th, at 3:00 in the afternoon at her home in Rindge in her back yard. MeiMei loved working in that yard and will love the idea of family and friends coming together to tell "her best stories".
