Obituary:  The Oakdale Sentinel, Thursday, 14 August 1947 - George Edward PEETS: G. E. Peets, 79, long time resident of Oakdale and community, died at his home here Saturday morning.  He had been in ill health for some time but his illness took a critical turn last Wednesday night.  Funeral services were held in the Methodist church Monday afternoon with Rev. H. G. Langley and Rev. Dawson J. Park in charge.  Internment was made in the Oakdale Cemetery.  The Oakdale Odd Fellows Lodge conducted brief services at the grave.  George Edward Peets was born near Spencer, Clay county, Iowa, January 19, 1868, and passed away at his home in Oakdale, Nebraska, August 9, 1947, at the age of seventy-nine years, six months and twenty-one days.  At the age of twelve years he came with his parents to Oakdale and settled on a timber claim in St. Clair Valley, where he grew to manhood.  On December 27, 1887, he was married to Catherine Wetzel.  To this union two children were born, a daughter, Cornelia Peets, and a son Charles Peets.  The deceased converted and joined the Methodist church in 1938 and had been a faithful member.  A week ago Sunday Mr. Peets attended church.  All during his illness he attended whenever possible.  He had taken an active part in not only his church but in his community.  He had been an active member of the Odd Fellows Lodge No. 113 for the past forty-four years.  He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Catherine, daughter Cornelia who is Mrs. Fred Kraft of Sioux City, Iowa, son Charles E. Peets of Oakdale; four grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Ida Duncan and Mrs. Lulu Prevo of Oakdale, and Mrs. Nellie Gillmore and Mrs. Cora Cohee of Arcata, California; also nieces and nephews and a host of friends.  His father, mother, three brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.

MISC:  - The Oakdale Sentinel (Oakdale, NE), Saturday, 3 March 1900:  Ed Peets got his left leg broken below the knee last Thursday.  He had started horseback to the wolf hunt when the horse fell, breaking Ed's leg.  The accident occurred some distance from his home, but he was seen by a passer-by and taken home in a buggy.  The doctor set the bone and Ed is doing fairly well.

- The Oakdale Sentinel (Oakdale, NE), Friday, 18 October 1907:  G. E. Peets and wife went to Omaha Tuesday.  Mrs. Peets went as delegate to the Rebekah assembly from Oakdale lodge and Mr. Peets will attend the sessions of the grand lodge of Odd Fellows.

- The Oakdale Sentinel (Oakdale, NE), Friday, 21 January 1910:  Mrs. G. E. Peets entertained a large company of relatives and friends Wednesday evening in celebration of her husband's 42d birthday.  A splendid dinner was served.

- The Oakdale Sentinel (Oakdale, NE), Friday, 15 May 1914:  Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Peets started Monday for Lincoln where Mr. Peets expected to attend the meeting of the K. of P. grand lodge.  News of the death of their brother reached them at Battle Creek and they returned on the afternoon passenger.

Obituary:  Neligh News and Leader (NE), 25 July 1968:  Catherine Wetzel Peets:  Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 23, at 2 p.m. at the Methodist Church in Oakdale for Mrs. Catherine Peets who died Saturday, July 20, 1968, at Manor Hall at Tilden at the age of 101 years, 7 months and 6 days.  The Rev. Willis R Taplin of Central City officiated at the service and burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were Earl Haines, Irvie Schwarting, Ralph Kinnan, Donald Obershaw and Dellis BlissCatherine Peets was born December 14, 1866 in Aldorf, Germany to John Henery Wetzel and Magdaline Ott.  She came to America with her parents at the age of three months and the family lived in LaSalle County, Illinois from 1867 to 1878 at which time they moved to Sarpy County, Nebraska.  In 1881 they moved to Antelope County which was her home until her death.  She was married December 27, 1887 to George Peets and to this union two children were born.  Survivors include her son, Charles of Oakdale, four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.  Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, daughter and three brothers.

Obituaries for the children:

Cornelia C. Peets:  The Neligh News and Leader, 13 June 1963:  Funeral services for Mrs. Cornelia Kraft of Sioux City, Iowa were held Monday afternoon, June 10, at the Neligh Grace Lutheran Church with the Rev. R. G. Holqhauer of South Sioux City officiating.  Interment was in the Oakdale Cemetery with Guy Fredinburg, Oris Brink, Glen Thomas, Lee Timm, Irvin Wagner, and Ralph Hunter serving as pallbearers.  Cornelia Kraft, the daughter of George and Catherine Peets, was born September 26, 1892 at Oakdale and died Jun 7, 1963 in a Sioux City hospital at the age of 70 years, 8 months and 11 days.  She grew to womanhood in the Oakdale community.  On June 3, 1916 she was married to Fred Kraft of Oakdale and to this union one daughter was born.  They resided in Oakdale until 1940 when they moved to Sioux City.  She was employed by the Wincharger Corp. for 15 years, retiring in 1957.  Mrs, Kraft was a member of the Sioux city St Paul Lutheran Church, the Woman’s League and Woman’s Society of the church.  She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Raymond Dittrich of Humboldt, Iowa, her mother, Mrs. Catherine Peets, Oakdale, a brother, Charles Peets, Oakdale, three grandchildren and other relatives.

 

Charles Edwin Peets:  Neligh News and Leader, 14 January 1982:  Funeral services were held for Charles E. Peets of Oakdale on Wednesday, January 13 at the Marshall-Harlan Funeral Home in Tilden with Rev. Stan LARUE of Tilden officiating.  Interment was in the Oakdale Cemetery.  Joe Petersen was soloist at the rites.  Charles E. Peets, the son of George Edward and Catherine (Wetzel) Peets was born at Oakdale on April 18, 1895.  He graduated from the Oakdale high school in 1914 and was married to Dorothea M. Martens on March 26, 1919.  The couple farmed most of their married life on a farm one mile east of Oakdale.  After Mrs. Peets died in March of 1972, Peets moved to Tilden.  He later became a resident of Heritage Village in Tilden on October 27, 1979.  He was a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge of Oakdale.  Peets died at the Tilden Community Hospital on January 10, 1982 at the age of 86 years.  Survivors include: three daughters, Mrs. Elmer (Irene) Pearson of South Sioux City, Mrs. Herman (Margaret) Weeder of Columbus, and Mrs. Robert (Joyce) Tierney of Denver, eight grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and one sister.
