Sophie Pitre: Watertown Daily Times (NY), Saturday, 17 November 1990: Sophie Peters, 93, of 69 Lake St., longtime resident of Tupper Lake and a former chef, died Thursday morning in the Mercy Healthcare Center. The funeral was scheduled for 11:30 a.m. today at St. Alphonsus Church with Msgr. Edmund Dumas officiating. Following cremation, burial will be in St. Alphonsus Cemetery. Contributions may be made to North Country Home Services, Tupper Lake Volunteer Rescue Squad or Mercy Healthcare Center, all in care of the Rennell Funeral Home, Tupper Lake, N.Y. Surviving are three nieces, Mrs. Aldona McHugh, Miami, Fla., Mrs. Jean Rochette, Cornwall, Ontario, and Miss Marjorie Peters, Toronto, Ontario; a great-niece, Mrs. Mary Sparks, Tupper Lake, with whom Miss Peters had lived; two great-nephews, Joseph LaLonde, Tupper Lake, and William Wilson, Fountain Valley, Calif., and three great-great-nephews, Thomas, Arthur and William Sparks, all of Tupper Lake. She was born Aug. 16, 1897, in L'Ardoise, Cape Breton, Canada, a daughter of George and Adele Landry Peters. Miss Peters had been a resident of Tupper Lake for more than 60 years. She was a chef at the Iroquois Hotel and the Waverly Hotel for many years. She was a communicant of St. Alphonsus Church.

He was a retired fisherman. He is survived by his wife, the former Florence Sampson; four daughters, Angeline (Mrs. Maurice Luciano), Halifax; Emiline (Mrs. Lavin Gerrior), Dartmouth; Jean (Mrs. Jean-Louis Rochette), Cornwall, Ont; Marjorie, Toronto; five sons, Charlie, St. Peter's; Gerard, Joseph, George, all of Halifax; James, L'Ardoise; a sister, Sophie, New York. He was predeceased by two sons, Sylvester, Quentin, seven brothers, George, Maurice, Charlie, Martin, Sylvester, Wilfred, Wallace; three sisters, Eliza, Mathilda, Catherine. The body is in the L'Ardoise Parish Funeral Home. Funeral will be held in the Holy Guardian Angel Church, L'Ardoise, 10 a.m. Tuesday, Rev. J.J. MacDonald officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
