Obituary Pitre:  Monday, 29 May 1989:  Existe Peters, 84, Lower L'Ardoise, died Sunday at home.  Born in Lower L'Ardoise, he was a son of the late George and Ada (Landry) Peters.  He was a retired fisherman.  He is survived by his wife, the former Florence Sampson; four daughters, Angeline (Mrs. Maurice Luciano), Halifax; Emiline (Mrs. Lavin Gerrior), Dartmouth; Jean (Mrs. Jean-Louis Rochette), Cornwall, Ont; Marjorie, Toronto; five sons, Charlie, St. Peter's; Gerard, Joseph, George, all of Halifax; James, L'Ardoise; a sister, Sophie, New York.  He was predeceased by two sons, Sylvester, Quentin, seven brothers, George, Maurice, Charlie, Martin, Sylvester, Wilfred, Wallace; three sisters, Eliza, Mathilda, Catherine.  The body is in the L'Ardoise Parish Funeral Home.  Funeral will be held in the Holy Guardian Angel Church, L'Ardoise, 10 a.m. Tuesday, Rev. Obituary:  Thursday, February 8, 1990:  Peters, Florence - 84, L'Ardoise, Richmond County.  Died Tuesday in Halifax.  Born in L'Ardoise she was the daughter of the late Edward and Delina (Gracie) Sampson.  She is survived by five sons, Charlie, St. Peter's, Richmond County; James, L'Ardoise; Gerard, George, Joseph, all of Halifax; four daughters; Angeline (Mrs. Maurice Luciano), Halifax; Emeline (Mrs. Lavin Gerrior), Dartmouth; Jean (Mrs. J. L. Rochette), Cornwall, Ont; Marjorie, Toronto; 31 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren.  She was predeceased by her husband, Existe; two sons, Quentin and Sylvester; four brothers, William, Dominic, Fred, Albert; three sisters, Angeline Barrette, Sophie Hall, Jane Sampson.  The body is in L'Ardoise Parish Funeral Home.  Funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday in Holy Guardian Angel Church, Rev, J. Charles Alexander Peters:  12 September 1997 - Peters, Charles Alexander - 69, Grande Greve, St. Peter's, passed away Wednesday, September 10, 1997, in Strait Richmond Hospital.  Born in Lower L'Ardoise, Richmond Co., he was a son of the late Existe and Florence (Sampson) Peters.  During the Second World War, he served in the Merchant Navy, for which he received the Atlantic Star.  He was employed with the Canadian Coast Guard and in 1966, he joined the staff of the Coast Guard College in Westmount as seamanship instructor.  He retired in 1985 with 35 years of service.  After his retirement, he devoted most of his time as an active member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 47, St. Peter's, becoming a life member.  At the time of his death, he was president of that branch, having held the position for the last six years.  He is survived by sons, Kenneth (Brenda), Sydney; David (Trudy), Douglas (Debbie), both of Westmount; grandchildren, Kent, Brad, Shaun, Megan, Trina, Lindsay, Chad and Melanie; sisters, Emeline (Mrs. Lavin Gerrior), Dartmouth; Angeline (Mrs. Maurice Luciano), Halifax; Marjorie, Toronto; Mrs. Jean Rochette, Cornwall, Ont.; brothers, Gerrard (Lorraine), Halifax; James (Marguerite), Lower L'Ardoise; George (Beatrice), Cheticamp.  He was predeceased by his wife, the former Eleanor James; brothers, Sylvester, Quinten and Joseph.  The late Mr. Peters is resting at Holy Guardian Angels Funeral Home, L'Ardoise, with visitation from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today, September 12.  Funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, September 13, in Holy Guardian Angels Church, L'Ardoise, Rev. Angeline M. Peters:  Tuesday, 14 September 2004 - Luciano, Angeline M. 'Angie' - 75, Halifax, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 13, 2004, in the New Halifax Infirmary, QEII.  Born in L'Ardoise, Cape Breton, she was a daughter of the late Existe and Florriene (Sampson) Peters.  A long-time member of St. Joseph's Parish, Angie was a devoted wife and loving mother.  She is survived by her husband, Maurice; sons, Tony, Stephen (Donalda), Russell (partner Ann); daughters, Gloria, Sandra (David Evans), Wendy, Joanne (Saleen Luciano-Toulany), Pauline (Jimmy Doyle); many grandchildren; brothers, Gerrard, George; sisters, Emeline Gerrior, Jean Rochette, and Marjorie; many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by brothers, Charlie, Joseph, Sylvester, Quentin, and James.  Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, September 15, in J. A. Snow Funeral Home, Halifax.  Funeral mass will be held at 12 noon Thursday, September 16, in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, corner of Gottingen and Russell streets, Father Lorne MacDonald officiating.  Burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Sackville.  Family flowers only.  Memorial donations may be made to Lung Association of Nova Scotia.

 

George Edward Peters:  22 May 2006 - Peters, George Edward - 75, Cheticamp, died May 21, 2006, in Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, Cheticamp.  Born in L'Ardoise, he was a son of the late Existe and Florence (Sampson) Peters.  He was a member of St. Peter's Church, Cheticamp.  George worked as a cook at the Lord Nelson Hotel in Halifax for 13 years and also at the Victoria General Hospital for 27 years.  He retired in 1990 and made his home in Cheticamp.  He was an associate member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 32, Cheticamp.  Surviving are his wife, Beatrice (Larade) Peters; sons, Roger (Rhoda) Peters, Halifax; Richard (Pam) Peters, Ottawa, Ont.; brother, Gerard (Lorraine) Peters, Halifax; sisters, Emeline (Laffin) Gerrier, Dartmouth; Jean (Johnny) Rochette, Cornwall, Ont.; Marjorie Peters, Halifax; grandchildren, Ellen, Michael, Kyle, Nicole; step-grandson, Christopher.  He was predeceased by brothers, Charlie, Joseph, James, Quintin, Sylvester; sister, Angeline Luciano.  Cremation has taken place.  Visitation will be held in Cheticamp Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.  A memorial mass will be offered on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in St. Peter's Church, Cheticamp, Father Peter LeBlanc officiating.  Interment in the parish cemetery.  Donations may be made to Palliative Care Services, Sacred Heart Community Health Centre.

 

Joseph Wallace Peters:  22 September 1992:  Peters, Joseph Wallace - 60, Halifax, died September 21, 1992, in Victoria General Hospital.  Born in Lower L'Ardoise, Cape Breton, he was a son of the late Existe and Florence (Sampson) Peters.  He was an employee of Bob MacDonald Chev Olds; former employee of Dick Turpins Pub; Ocean Tavern and Beverage Room.  He is survived by his wife, the former Karen Andersen; two daughters, Nikki (Mrs. Harold (Dave) MacKenzie), Calgary, Alta.; Karen (Mrs. Sonny Heon), Halifax; son, Ronald, Halifax; four brothers, Gerrard, Halifax; Charlie, St. Peter's, Cape Breton; James, Lower L'Ardoise; George, Cheticamp; four sisters, Emeline (Mrs. Lavin Gerrior), Dartmouth; Angeline (Mrs. Maurice Luciano), Halifax; Marjorie, Toronto; Jean (Mrs. Jean Rochette), Cornwall, Ont.; four grandchildren.  He was predeceased by two brothers, Sylvester, Quinten.  The body is in Atlantic Funeral Home, Halifax, visiting 7-9 p.m. today, 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.  Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Church, Halifax, Rev. Gerard Francis Peters:  Wednesday, 16 September 2009 - Peters, Gerard - 74.  It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gerard Francis Peters at his home on Sunday, September 13, 2009.  Born in L'Ardoise, he was the son of the late Existe and Florence (Sampson) Peters.  He was employed at the Lord Nelson Hotel until his retirement in 2000.  He will be remembered best for his incredible sense of humour, his love and loyalty to his family, friends and his community.  He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Lorraine (Sampson), formerly of Louisdale; son, Darrell (Shelley Gayton) Peters, Elmsdale; daughters, Donna (Ken) Margeson, Dartmouth; grandchildren, Laura, Kristen, Chelsea and Gary; sister, Jean (Jean-Louis) Rouchette, Cornwall, Ont.; sister, Marjorie, L'Ardoise/Halifax and Philip and Sandra Comeau, Sackville, who are like a son and daughter to Gerard and Lorraine.  Beside his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Charlie, George, James, Joseph, Quentin, Sylvester; sisters, Angeline Luciano, Emeline Gerrior.  Cremation has taken place.  There will be no visitation.  Funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 19, in Holy Guardian Angels Parish, L'Ardoise, Rev. Sylvester Peters:  1958 (Picture behind article):  Railliner Hits Truck - Man Killed at Level Crossing:  One man was killed and another critically injured Wednesday when the truck in which they were riding collided with the fast moving C.N.R. Railliner on a level crossing near the Co-Op warehouse at Sydney River.  Dead is Sylvester Peters, 21, of L'Ardoise and in hospital with serious head injuries and a broken arm is Joseph C. Mombourquette, 49, also of L'Ardoise.  Peters died almost two hours after being admitted to St. Rita Hospital.  Coroner A.D. Muggah has ordered an inquest into the fatality for Oct 29 at the court house.  Peters was a passenger in the truck operated by Mombourquette and had come to Sydney on business.  The fatal mishap occurred about 8:45 a.m.  Passengers on the Railliner were delayed for about 90 minutes to await the arrival of a second Railliner.  Damage to the CNR passenger carrier was confined to the front section.  The 1957 model vehicle was damaged to such an extent that the wooden box and parts of the machine were scattered over 50 yards from the point of compact.  Mombourquette was to have picked up a load of material at the Sydney River Warehouse to take back to L'Ardoise.  The fatal mishap occurred on a dirt road off King's Road that lead to the Co-Op grounds.  RCMP in Sydney are conducting an investigation.  Mombourquette's condition late last night was still considered critical.  Peters had been employed as a hotel clerk with the Lord Nelson Hotel in Halifax for the past 4 years.  He had been home on vacation for the past two weeks.  He is survived by his father, Existe Peters, a well known farmer and fisherman in the L'Ardoise district and his mother, the former Florence Sampson of the same community.  Six brothers; Clarence, Joseph, George, and Gerard all in Halifax and James and Quinton at home; and four sisters, Angeline, Jean and Emeline residing in Halifax and Margie at home also survive.  The remains are resting at the family residence in L'Ardoise.  The funeral is expected to be held Saturday morning in the Guardian Angel church in L'Ardoise.  Interment in the parish cemetery.
 

James Wilfred Peters:  Monday, 19 April 2004 - Peters, James W. - 62.  It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of James Wilfred Peters on April 16, 2004, in St. Martha's Regional Hospital, Antigonish, surrounded by his loving family.  Born in Lower L'Ardoise, he was a son of the late Existe and Florence (Sampson) Peters.  He was a member of Holy Guardian Angels Church, L'Ardoise.  He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Marguerite (Collier); daughter, Bernadette Boudreau, Arichat; son, Sylvester, L'Ardoise; grandson, Darren; brothers, Gerard (Lorraine), Halifax; George (Beatrice), Cheticamp; sisters, Marjorie Peters, Halifax; Jean (Jean Louis) Rochette, Cornwall, Ont.; Emeline (Laven) Gerrior, Dartmouth; Angeline (Maurice) Luciano, Halifax.  Besides his parents he was predeceased by brothers, Charles, Joseph, Sylvester and Quinten.  Cremation has taken place.  There will be no visitation.  Funeral mass 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 20, in Holy Guardian Angels Church, L'Ardoise, Rev. John MacIntyre officiating.  Burial in the parish cemetery.  No flowers please by request of the family.  Donations may be made to L'Ardoise Volunteer Fire Department in his memory.  Arrangements under the direction of Alex A. Quinten Robert Peters:  Friday 29 May 1987 - Quinten Robert Peters, 41, of 79 Jackson, Road, Dartmouth, died Thursday at Dartmouth General Hospital.  Born in Lower L’Ardoise, Cape Breton, he was the son of Existe and Florence (Sampson) Peters.  At the time of his death, he was employed with Capitol Stores in Halifax, and was a former employee of IGA.  He was a member of St. Clement’s Parish and the Independent Order of Foresters.  He was a coach with the north Dartmouth Minor Baseball League.  Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife, the former Wendy Elias, a son, Craig at home; four sisters, Angeline (Mrs. Morris Luciano), Halifax; Emeline (Mrs. Laven Gerroir), Dartmouth; Marjorie, Toronto; Jean (Mrs. Jean Louis Rochette), Cornwall, Ontario; five brothers, Charles, St. Peter’s; James, L’Ardoise; George, Joseph and Gerard, all of Halifax.  He was predeceased by a brother, Sylvester.  The body is in Atlantic Funeral Home, Main Street, Dartmouth, with visiting hours 7-9-p.m. today.  Funeral Mass will be 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Clement’s Roman Catholic Church, Rev. Robert Walsh officiating.  Burial will be in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens.  Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
