MISC: Argus Leader (SD), Wednesday, 30 September 1896:  H. M. Miles has commenced the work of drilling a six inch artesian well for George Pete on his river ranch, west of town and Benjamin Turgeon has taken his outfit across the river and commenced on a well in Gregory county, near the whetstone creek.

- The State Democrat (SD), Friday, 27 July 1900:  An uncommonly large and ferocious buffalo wolf has had her den near George Pete's ranch on the reservation.

- The Wheeler Courier (SD), Thursday, 14 May 1908:  George Pete one of the businessmen of Burke was doing business in Wheeler on Saturday last.  Abraham Turgeon was in company with him.

- Rapid City Journal (SD), Sunday, 21 January 1951:  A column entitled 'Chris Colombe's Fabulous Career Now a Legend in Rosebud Country':  Edited/summarised extracts - A bloody cowboy fight had occurred on a Saturday night in 1894 at a dance held on Pete's creek.  Dr. Zimmerman was dispatched to George Pete's ranch located on a little creek called Pete's creek.  George Pete was a white man married to an Indian woman and the doctor knew them well.  Pete was a diminutive jockey-sized man, while his wife was a big woman who tipped the scales over 300 pounds.  The Petes had staged a dance the night before and the whole reservation had attended.  When the doctor arrived at the ranch it was a scene of wild disorder; drunken, blood-stained and beat-up cowboys.  Chris Colombe had his sights set on Emma Brughier but other cowboys intervened.  There ensued an extremely violent and bloody fight amongst all the cowboys.  George Pete had been called upstairs by his wife shortly before the mayhem started.  He eventually grabbed a double-barrel shotgun and started downstairs.  His wife threw him to the floor, where she sat on him.  Most of the fighting was fists and knives, but eventually a gun was fired.  The terrified women upstairs began to sing a hymn.  George heard a lamp crash below and smelled kerosene fumes, and feared they would burn his house down.  His wife did not relent.  Chris Colombe fought his way through the house and rode off with Emma Brughier whom he later married.
