Lucie Bernadette (Sister Bernadette) Pitre:  6 February 2005 (photo):  On February 4, 2005 at Tache Nursing Centre, Sister Bernadette Pitre was peacefully called by the Lord to her eternal reward at the age of 87.  Born in North Milton, Prince Edward Island on May 14 1917, her parents being Hilaire Pitre and Almina Blanchard, Bernadette was the ninth of a family of 14 children.  Her parents of solid faith had the joy of having three of their daughters consecrating themselves to God in religious life.  Bernadette joined the Grey Nuns on August 5, 1939 and made her first vows on August 15, 1942.  Three years later, on the footsteps of Marguerite d'Youville, she consecrated herself definitively to the service of God by perpetual commitment at the Grey Nuns Mother House in Montreal.  After her religious profession, Sister Bernadette was missioned to Lebret, Saskatchewan where she became responsible of young students, a ministry which she fulfilled during more than ten years.  It was then in Fort Frances, Ontario that she continued to serve in the same capacity.  From 1954 to 1962, Sister Pitre's talents were requested at Tache Centre where she was became responsible of the employees.  Later, it was at St. Vital Sanatorium, Foyer St. Boniface and the Provincial House that she assumed the same responsibility.  With engineers, carpenters, maintenance personnel, she learned to become a woman who could fulfil many tasks.  She trusted people with whom she worked and wherever she went she was loved and appreciated.  In God she found her strength and joy while serving others during her 63 of religious life.  Sister Bernadette leaves to mourn one sister: Cora (Maurice) Calleghan and two brothers: Leonard and Walter (Verna) as well as many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her parents, three brothers: Felix, Edgar and Leo; seven sisters: Edna, Emily (Sister Rose-Anna) Ethel, Margaret, Hilda (Sister Mary Francis, r.g.s.) Bernadette and Doris.  A liturgy of the Word will be held on Sunday, February 6 at 7:00 p.m. at Tache Nursing Centre.  The funeral will take place at St. Boniface Cathedral on February 7 at 2:00 p.m. with Fr. Leo Couture as celebrant.  The Grey Nuns wish to thank the nursing personnel of 3DE as well as the pastoral workers of Tache Centre for the excellent care and love provided to Sister Bernadette.  The Desjardins Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
