Obituary: The Kingston Whig Standard (Kingston, ONT), Thursday, 21 March 1946: Francois A. LaShomb, Grindstone Island farmer, who had been ill for some time committed suicide by cutting his throat with a knife.
Misc.: Watertown Daily Times, Tuesday, 3 October 1922: Council business - Damages to the extent of $200 are claimed by A.V. Lashomb of 877 Mill street in behalf of the son, Francis Lashomb, who was injured while swinging at the Lansing street playground on July 15, 1922. The boy's knees and legs were lacerated, it is said, and the swing is alleged to have been in an unsafe condition.

Obituary: Watertown Daily Times (Watertown, NY), Sunday, 23 June 2002: Clayton - Florence L. "Sis" Matthews, 93, formerly of Grindstone Island, died Friday evening at Samaritan Keep Home, Watertown, where she had resided for about six months. Mrs. Matthews and her husband, Charles L., were dairy farmers on Grindstone Island for years. She was a member of Grindstone Island United Methodist Church and had spent the last several winters in Clayton with her son and her daughter-in-law, Charles L. 'Skip' Jr. and Nancy Matthews. Born Jan. 31, 1909, in Clayton, daughter of Robert and Clara Turcotte Garnsey, she attended school on Grindstone Island. She married Francis A. Lashomb on June 1, 1929, at the Clayton Methodist parsonage. He died March 17, 1946. She married Mr. Matthews in February 1947 in Clayton. He died Sept. 29, 1985. Surviving besides her son and daughter-in-law are a daughter and her husband, Wava and William Holloway, Clayton; three other sons and their wives, George and Lynette Matthews, North Carolina, and Robert and Audrey Lashomb and Clarence and Karen Lashomb, all of Clayton; 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. A sister, Mrs. Earl (Pauline) Hunneyman, and two brothers, Lawrence and Clarence Garnsey, died before her. A prayer service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Grindstone Island United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Marks, retired minister, officiating. Burial will be in Grindstone Island Cemetery. Boats will leave at 10 a.m. Monday from Riverside Drive municipal docks. Calling hours are from 1 to 4 p.m. today at T. R. Jetty Funeral Home. Donations may be made to Grindstone Island United Methodist Church.
