Obituary Pitre: Times Picayune (New Orleans, LA), 15 September 1970: Ernest J. Pitre, of Gretna, La., on Monday, September 14, 1970, at 8:35 o'clock a.m., beloved husband of Elaine Boyett, father of Shelby Pitre, son of the late Louise Thibodeaux and Eddie Pitre, brother of Mrs. Agnes Giroir and Obin Pitre, and the late Edward, Wallace and Walter Pitre, age 55 years, a native of Gretna, La. Relatives and friends of the family, also employees of Johns-Manville Products, Corp. are invited to attend the funeral. Services from Mothe Funeral Homes Inc., Harvey, La., on Wednesday, September 16, 1970 at 11:00 o'clock a.m. Requiem Mass at Christ the King Church, Terrytown. Interment Westlawn Memorial Park. Parlors will be open on Tuesday, September 15, 1970, at 6 p.m.

Obituary: The New Orleans Advocate (LA), 21 February 2017: A wonderful mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Elaine B. Pitre died peacefully on Friday, February 17 at Ocean Springs Hospital after a short illness. She will be missed by many, those who knew her and were close to her, and by those who maybe only had a brief encounter with her. Elaine's presence will have a lifetime impact on everyone who was fortunate enough to meet her. During WWII, Elaine was employed by Todd Johnson Ship Yard in Algiers, Louisiana, McCrory's Department store on Canal Street in New Orleans, manager at We Wash It Laundromat in Gretna and an employee of North End Grocery in Gulfport, MS. Elaine was a very proud, faithful donor and considered one of the oldest blood donors for the American Red Cross. In 2012, Elaine was recognized as the "Queen of Giving" for donating blood several times a year and for contributing 2 gallons of blood. Elaine was honored on her 93rd birthday by the WWII museum in New Orleans as a Rosie the Riveter for her work during WWII. Elaine was a member of Coalville United Methodist Church for 42 years. Elaine moved onto a peaceful life, leaving two sons and one daughter, Shelby A. Pitre and wife Leslie of Ocean Springs, Sam Griffin and wife Betty of Arab, AL and Ann Gurley of Arab, AL. Two sisters, Lola Wright of Biloxi, Loyce Adair of Terry, MS; grandchildren; Randy, Ronnie, Tiffany, Caitlin and Tyler; great-grandchildren; Kaitlyn, Laura, Wyatt, Gracie and Gavin. Elaine was predeceased by her husband, Ernest J. Pitre; her mother, Victoria Read and her sister Sybil Hendren. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in memory of Elaine Pitre to Coalville United Methodist Church, Biloxi, MS. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Riemann Family Funeral Home, Ocean Springs, MS. Friends may visit from 12 Noon until 2:00 p.m. The Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 24, 2017 at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Gretna, LA.
