Obituary:  The Post Standard (Syracuse), Friday, 3 July 1959:  Services for Elwood J. LaShomb, 41, of 157 Holland St., will be Monday at the Garner Funeral Home, Potsdam.  Burial will be in Hopkinton Cemetery.  Mr. LaShomb, who died Wednesday at home after a short illness, was born in Parishville and lived here eight years.  A veteran of World War II in the South Pacific Theater.  Mr. LaShomb was employed at W. Fitzgerald Contractors Co.  Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Bessie Allen LaShomb; two brothers, Rutherford J. and Neil S. LaShomb, both of Potsdam; five sisters, Mrs. Raymond Rose of Ogdensburg, Mrs. William McGuire of Central Islip, Mrs. John Beneke of Commack, Mrs. Michael Mitch of Levittown and Mrs. Edward Fenlon of Silver Springs, Md.  Friends may call from 2 to 4 today at the Burns Funeral Home, 652 W. Onondaga St.

- Potsdam Courier and Freeman, Thursday, 9 July 1959:  West Stockholm - Services were held Monday for Elwood LaShombe, brother of Neal LaShombe West Stockholm, who died unexpectedly of a heart attack in Syracuse.

Obituary:  Watertown Daily Times (Watertown, NY), Thursday, 11 February 2010:  (photo) Canton - Doris Merkley Leonard, 93, formerly of Judson Street Road, died Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at the United Helpers Canton Maplewood Campus where she was a resident since 2004.  Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 13th at 12:15 PM at the Lawrence Funeral Home, Canton with Rev. William Hart officiating.  Calling hours will be Saturday from 11:00 to noon at the funeral home.  Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in the spring.  Memorial contributions to the Potsdam Humane Society, Potsdam, NY.  Surviving are her step-children, Avis Exelby of Fabius, Allien LaPierre of North Syracuse, Donald Leonard of Canton and Vernon Leonard of NC; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by a step-granddaughter, Julie Leonard.  Born February 29, 1916 in Russell, NY, she was the daughter of Edwin J. and Lillian (Graves) Merkley.  On June 28, 1962, she married Elmer Leonard at the Methodist Church in Tupper Lake.  Mr. Leonard died October 2000.  She later worked with Elmer on the family dairy farm until the 1970's.  In the 50's and 60's she worked as a cook for the St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Correctional Facility.  Doris was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Canton and enjoyed taking in boarders usually hockey players, when she lived on Mechanics Street.  She also enjoyed her numerous cats and dogs and feeding the birds.
