Obituary: Lake Charles American Press (Lake Charles, LA), Friday, 27 March 1964: Kinder - Funeral services for Elzie J. Pitre, 61, of Route 1, Kinder, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Rites will be held from St. Philip Neri Catholic Church with Rev. A.J. Robichaud, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery near Elton under direction of Ardoin Funeral Home of Kinder. A Rosary will be said at the funeral home at 7 p.m. today. Mr. Pitre died at 7:15 p.m. Thursday in a Lake Charles hospital. He was a member of the Catholic church, a farmer and also in the concrete works business. He was a native of Kinder. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Loviana M. Pitre; one son, John Sheldon Pitre of LeBlanc; two daughters, Mrs. George Hammonds Jr. of Kinder and Mrs. H. D. Larson of Lake Charles; one brother, Adras P. Pitre of Jennings; one sister, Mrs. Frank Miller of Sulphur, one half-sister, Mrs. Jim Manuel of Kinder; and 10 grandchildren.

Obituary: The Kinder Courier News (Kinder, LA), Thursday, 24 November 1988: Funeral services for Mrs. Lovina Pitre, 85, of Kinder were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 15th in the St. Philip Neri Catholic Church. The Reverend Ronald Groth officiated. Burial was in the Liberty Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin's Funeral Homes. Mrs. Pitre died at 9:45 a.m. Monday, November 14 in the Allen Parish Hospital. She was a native of the Kinder area. Survivors include: one son, John S. Pitre of Mamou; two daughters, Mrs. Maxine Sanger of Lake Charles and Mrs. Jane Withers of Baton Rouge; four brothers, Harmon Moreau and Madison Moreau, both of Kinder, Lincoln Moreau of Welsh and Cletus Moreau of Sulphur; four sisters, Mrs. Ida Bararino of Elton, Mrs. Blanche Alexander of Jasper, Texas; Mrs. Inez Bryan of Hathaway and Mrs. Lurline Jordan of Kinder; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Martha Maxine Pitre: American Press (Lake Charles, LA), Saturday, 22 October 2022: (photo) Maxine Pitre Larson Sanger, 94, of Lake Charles, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2022 in the comfort of her home. Mrs. Sanger was born Oct. 31, 1927 to Elzie and Lovina Moreau Pitre in Kinder, La. She lived most of her life in Lake Charles. She was a graduate of Kinder High School and completed Modeling school soon after. She began her young career as a bookkeeper for Price Motors. She will be well remembered throughout our community as a face of The Christian Bookstore where she worked decades, primarily in bookkeeping and operations, later purchasing partnership in the store where she continued operations as the co-owner well into her eighties. Mrs. Sanger embraced time shared with family and friends with special interest independent of each relationship. She cooked Sunday meals for gatherings of family, enjoyed eating throughout the crawfish season with her son, Eric; cheering on the New Orleans Saints with her son, Kurt; touring plantations and participating in the Banner Series India night with her granddaughters, Mercia and Nabeela; visits with many games of Canasta with her sister, Jane and 3:00 coffee time each day with her neighbors. Mrs. Sanger also loved travel, having traveled the world extensively throughout our country as well as internationally. A lifelong member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, Mrs. Sanger was an admirable lady of faith, family and friends. She is affectionately remembered by her children for giving them "the best childhood"! She leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, Eric Neal Larson (Molly) of Lake Charles, and Kurt David Larson (Angelle) of Moss Bluff; adopted by heart, two granddaughters, Mercia Paul and Nabeela Paul; one sister, Jane Withers of Baton Rouge; six grandchildren, April, Christopher, Stephanie, Ryan, Jennifer, and Mark; one great-grandchild and one on the way; and a vast number of friends. She was preceded in death by her first love, Harold Desmond Larson; one son, Matt Conway Larson; dear friend and second husband, Lenny Sanger; parents; and brother, Sonny Boy Pitre. Funeral services in celebration of her life will be at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24, 2022 in the Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home. The Rev. Thiago Silva of Bethel Presbyterian Church will officiate. Family and friends will gather from 4 p.m. until the time of service. Gathering will continue following her services until 8 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Sanger's family ask for acts of kindness to others and/or donations to someone in need. They also ask that everyone in attendance dress comfortably.

Survivors include three sons, John Sheldon Pitre Jr. of Lake Charles and James Stewart Pitre and Joseph Steven Pitre, both of LeBlanc; one daughter, Joyce Ann Pitre of Sulphur; two sisters, Maxine Sanger of Lake Charles and Jane Withers of Baton Rouge; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
