Obituary: Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Sunday, 3 November 1968: A 64-year-old man was found dead at 6:25 a.m. Saturday in front of a radiator shop on S. Railroad Ave., it was reported by city police who were called to the scene. He was identified as Eldridge Pitre, Genl. Del., Opelousas. Parish coroner Dr. A.E. Williams said Pitre died of a stroke or a heart attack at approximately 4 a.m. Personnel at Fontenot's Radiator Shop 458 S. Railroad Ave. where he was a part time employee, said Pitre had been in ill health for some time. Funeral services under direction of First National Funeral Home, will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Lawtell. Father Marcel Murie will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A rosary was said at 8 p.m. Saturday. Pitre is survived by three sons, Jessie K. of Opelousas, Joseph C., Victoria, Tex., and Eldridge Jr., Pasadena, Tex.; one daughter, Mrs. Mason Dupre of Alexandria; three brothers, Clifford of Lawtell, Frank of Swords and Robert, Opelousas; three sisters, Miss Hazel Pitre, Lawtell; Mrs. Aurelien Bourgeois, Lawtell and Mrs. Gilbert Carroll, Opelousas and eight grandchildren.

Burial will be in the Holy Sepulcher Cemetery directed by Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home on North Main. She died at 12:30 a.m. Thursday at the Opelousas General Hospital after a short illness. Survivors include three sons, Jesse James Pitre of Opelousas, Eldridge J. Pitre of Houston, Tex., J.C. Pitre of Victoria, Tex.; one daughter, Mrs. Mason (Jean) Dupre of Tioga, four brothers, Harry, Jeff, Webb and Harvard Smith, all of Ville Platte, three sisters, Mrs. Iris Tanner of Gonzales, Mrs. Helena Olivier of Reddell, Mrs. Yola Fontenot of Ville Platte, 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Mr. Pitre, a resident of Houston, Texas and a native of Opelousas, died Sunday morning in the Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Navy and Air Force. Survivors include: a daughter, Sharron Pitre of New Orleans; two brothers, Jesse J. Pitre of Opelousas and Joseph C. Pitre of Victoria, Texas; a sister, Mrs. Mason (Jean) Dupre of Tioga. Visiting hours from 5-10 p.m. today and from 7 a.m. Tuesday until time of services. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.. Jesse James Pitre: Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Sunday, 11 April 2010: (photo included) Opelopusas - Funeral services will be held Monday, April 12, 2010, at a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial, in St. Landry Roman Catholic Church in Opelousas, for Jesse James Pitre, Sr., 81, who passed away Thursday, April 8, 2010, at 1:38 p.m., at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette. Interment will be in Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Opelousas. The Very Rev. Msgr. J. Robert Romero, pastor of St. Landry Roman Catholic, will officiate at the services. Musical selections will be provided by Andre Pitre, accompanied by Naomi Broussard. The songs will be "The Old Rugged Cross," "How Great Thou Art," "Be Not Afraid," and "Battle Hymn of the Republic." Mr. Pitre was a native of Opelousas, where he lived most of his life. He was employed with Vermillion Wholesale for 22 years. He was also employed with Standard Fittings, Walmart and LaHaye Eye Center. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Coast Guard and a member of the Merchant Marines and traveled the world during his service. Mr. Pitre was a parishioner of St. Landry Roman Catholic Church in Opelousas. He was a devoted husband of 60 years and a loving father to his children. He was a friendly man who never met a stranger. He was best known for his barbecuing skills, which he lovingly passed on to his sons and grandsons. Survivors include three sons, Jesse James Pitre, Jr. and wife, Susan, of Walker, Steven Wendy Pitre and wife, Kathy, of Opelousas, and Joseph Michael Pitre, of New Orleans; four grandchildren, Shawn Michael Pitre and wife, Carrie, Rachel Ann Reed and husband, Lucas, all of Walker, Brandon Blake Pitre and wife, Michelle, of San Antonio, Texas, and Christian Andre Gerard Pitre, of Orlando, Fla.; five great-grandchildren, Dylan Michael Pitre, Chance Matthew Reed, Victoria Ann Reed, Etan Robert Lawrence Pitre, and Faith Elizabeth Pitre; one brother, Joseph C. She was born December 7, 1931 in Chataignier to the union of Eldridge Joseph Pitre, Sr. and Mary Ena (Smith) Pitre. She worked as a lunchroom technician and was private sitter. Jean was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt, and friend. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mason Joseph Dupre, Sr.; one son, Mason Joseph Dupre, Jr. and three brothers, Eldridge Joseph Pitre, Jr., Jesse James Pitre, and Joseph C. Pitre. Those left behind to cherish her memory are: two sons, Jack L. (Janice) Dupre of Deville and David Milton (Linda) Dupre of Pineville; eight grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and a host of family and friends. Joseph C. Pitre: Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Sunday, 24 February 2013: Victoria, Texas - Joseph "Joe" C. Pitre, 78, went to heaven on Saturday, February 16, 2013. He was born on April 5, 1934 in Opelousas, LA to the late Eldridge and Ena Smith Pitre. Joe served in the United Sates Air Force for four years and during that time he worked in the Pentagon, Brown and Williamson Tobacco and also worked for Wells Fargo Bank where he retired. In addition to his wife, Jerri, Joe is survived by his daughter, Desiree (Joe) Robison; son, Keith (Michelle) Pitre; step-son, Dennis Ellis (Kim Conway); sister, Jean Pitre Dupre of Tioga, LA; grandchildren, Jacob Pitre, Hannah Pitre, Erin Coney, Stacy and Matt Robison and Melissa Ellis, and great grandchildren, Bennett Coney and Mason Coney. In addition to his parents, Joe is preceded in death by his step-son, Curtis Ellis and brothers, Jesse and Eldridge Pitre. A graveside service with full military honors was held on Saturday, February 23, 2013 in Victoria, Texas at Memorial Park with Pastor Nick Stewart officiating. Memorial donations may be made in Joe's name to Hospice of South Texas or to Adopt-A-Pet. Grace Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
