Peets, 81, passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2024. at the DeMay Living Center. Services will be held in the Spring of 2025. Memorials in his name may be made to the Wayne County Humane Society, Lyons, New York. Merritt was born in Rochester on August 18, 1943, the son of the late Francis and Dorthea Chappell Peets. He served in the US Army from 1967 to 1969. He was a past member of the Palmyra Moose Club. He enjoyed fishing, boating, gardening, and bowling. For many years he played in golf leagues at Big Oak. He was a huge Yankees and Bills fan. He is survived by his wife Sharon Peets; two daughters Holly (Mark) Fortman and Candie (Steve) Berdy; two sons Terry Hamelyck and Aarron Peets; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two sisters Carole Harkness and Lynn Hartman; several nieces and nephews.
