- The Ville Platte Gazette (Ville Platte, LA), Thursday, 11 October 1973: (In an article about Mamou's cotton gin being taken out of retirement) The first day of operation was Monday, October 8, and some six bales of cotton were processed for Dan Pitre, local farmer, who was most happy to be able to process his cotton harvest in Mamou.

 

Obituary:  Daily World (Opelousas), Sunday, 28 March 1982:  Mamou - Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at St. Ann's Catholic Church for Mr. Dennis "Dan" Pitre, 69, a Mamou retired farmer.  Mr. Pitre died at 4:45 p.m. Friday, at Savoy Memorial Hospital.  Burial will be at the new St. Ann's Mausoleum.  Arrangements were made by Ardoin's Funeral Home of Mamou.  Survivors include his wife, Lula Pearl Duplechain Pitre; a son, Clyde Pitre of Baton Rouge; a daughter, Mrs. Ralph Callie Avera of Baton Rouge; a half-brother, Abel Granger of Plaquemine; one sister and two half-sisters, Mrs. Vena Hebert of Brussley, Mrs. Clara Guillory of Mamou, and Mrs. Mart St. Romaine of White Castle; and six grandchildren.

Obituary:  The Eunice News (Eunice, LA), Thursday, 23 January 2014:  Mamou - It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Lula D. Pitre Fuselier, 90, announce her passing on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at 9:50 pm at Magnolia Estates Nursing Home in Lafayette.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 1:00 pm at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Mamou.  Rite of Committal will follow in the New St. Ann's Mausoleum in Mamou with Father Mark Melancon as Celebrant.  Lula will be greatly missed by her son, Clyde Pitre and wife Ann of Baton Rouge; one daughter, Callie Pitre Avera of Lafayette; one brother, Jerry Duplechain of Ville Platte; six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.  Lula will now reunite in Heaven with her two husbands, Dennis Pitre and Harry Fuselier; three sisters, Lillian Fontenot, Lilly Duplechain and Wynica Anclet.  At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoin's Funeral Home on Saturday, January 25, 2014 from 11:00 am until time of services at 1:00pm.  A Rosary will be recited at 12:30 pm.  Ardoin's Funeral Home in Mamou is in charge of arrangements.

Callie Ann Pitre:   The Advocate (Baton Rouge, LA), 3 July 2014:  Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2014, at a 1:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial in Delhomme Funeral Home Chapel of the Flowers on Bertrand, for Callie Ann Pitre Avera, 70, who passed away on Monday, June 30, 2014, at her home in Lafayette.  Reverend Gary Schexnayder, Pastor of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Lafayette, will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services.  Lectors and Gift Bearers will be Ashlyn and Ryan Haycook.  Stephanie Hoffpauir, organist and soloist, will sing for the service.  Mrs. Avera was a native of Mamou.  She moved to Baton Rouge in 1960 to work for the state.  Over the years, she worked as a seamstress, salesperson, office administrator and tour guide.  Mrs. Avera was also employed as a manager for the last three U.S. Censuses.  She had been a resident of the Lafayette area for the past twenty-five years.  Callie was a former President of the Louisiana Genealogical Society and a member of the Krewe Tous Seul and Krewe de Canaille of Lafayette.  She was passionate about her Cajun culture, music, dancing, as well as sewing and quilting.  Callie made friends wherever she went and enjoyed traveling around the United States and Europe throughout her life.  She cherished all of her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren.  Callie will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.  She is survived by her son, Bill Crain and his wife Leslie Matlock; one daughter, Angela Crain Haycook; one step-son, Phillip Avera and his wife Carolyn; three grandchildren, Ashlyn and Ryan Haycook and Hayden Avera; and one brother, Clyde Pitre.  She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ralph H. Avera; and her parents, Dennis Pitre and Lula Duplechain Fuselier.  The family requests that visiting hours be observed in Delhomme Funeral Home on Bertrand on Saturday, July 5, 2014, from 10:00 AM until the time of service.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Mrs. Avera's name to a charity of your choice.  Delhomme Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.
