Misc.: Saginaw News (MI), Friday, 8 November 1918:  In a letter to his mother, Mrs. Mary Petre, Deloss Petre states that he took part in the great allied counter-attack on the Marne salient July 18 that started the Huns backwards towards Germany and began the disintegration of the German western front.  In that battle the marines covered themselves with glory, but at a terrible cost of killed and wounded.

Obituary:  The Saginaw News (Saginaw, MI), Sunday, 16 November 1958:  Petre, Delos J., Merrill, Michigan.  Delos J. Petre, 58, died unexpectedly late yesterday afternoon while hunting deer near Houghton Lake.  He was born July 4, 1900, in Gilford, Tuscola County, and came to Merrill with his parents when a child.  He married Bernice Leddy Nov. 3, 1926.  He had been employed by the Chesapeake & Ohio railroad 30 years.  He was a World War I Army veteran and a member of Sacred Heart Church, Merrill.  He leaves his wife; a son, Robert Petre, and a daughter, Mrs. Daniel Columbus, both of Merrill; three grandchildren; a brother, Floyd Petre, Billings, Mont.; four sisters, Mrs. Grace Trahan of San Antonio, Tex., Mrs. Frank Shannon and Mrs. Belle Barber of Merrill and Mrs. Sigmund Kwaitkowski of Saginaw, and several nieces and nephews.  The funeral announcement will be made later.  Friends may call at the Case Chapel in Merrill after 7 p.m. Sunday.

Obituary:  Midland Daily News (Midland, MI), Thursday, 29 October 1992:  Bernice M. Petre, 86, of Midland (formerly of Hemlock), died Tuesday evening, Oct. 27, 1992, at the Tendercare Nursing Home in Midland.  She was born April 1, 1906 in Thomas Township, Saginaw County, to the late Michael and Margaret (David) Leddy.  Surviving are her children, Robert Petere and his wife, Ilean, of Hemlock and Mary Chartier and her husband, Howard, of Bay City; seven grandchildren; eight brothers; one sister and her step-mother, Mrs. Adolf (Harriett) Weidman, of Shields.  A Mass of Christian Burial and committal services will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 30, 1992, from the St. Brigid Catholic Church, Midland.  Rev. Fr. Leonard Wilkuski will officiate; with burial to take place in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Hemlock.  Mrs. Petre's family will receive friends at the Ware-Smith-Woolever & Co. Funeral Homes, Midland from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, and at the church on Friday, from 10 a.m. until time of Mass.  A Christian Vigil Service will be conducted at the funeral home, 7 p.m. Thursday evening.  Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the donor's favorite charity.

Robert Delos Petre:  The Saginaw News (Saginaw, MI), Friday, 22 August 1997:  Petre, Robert Delos, Hemlock, Michigan.  Passed away suddenly Thursday, August 21, 1997, at St. Mary's Medical Center.  Age 67 years.  Robert Delos Petre, the son of the late Delos and Bernice Petre was born September 10, 1929 in Merrill.  He married Ilean Haven on February 7, 1953; she survives him.  He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War on the U.S.S. Orion.  He had been employed by Dow Chemical Company for 38 years, retiring in January 1986 as a Senior Operations Supervisor.  Robert was a lifelong practicing Catholic and a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Hemlock since 1965.  He enjoyed bowling and was on the Crooked Creek Anti-Rust Seniors Mixed and the Tuesday Senior Men's League.  He loved to travel, golf, woodworking and spending time with his family.  Surviving besides his wife are two sons, four daughters and their spouses, Kurt and Helen Petre, Hemlock; Keith and Colleen Petre, Midland; Helen and Mike Sommer, St. Charles; Denise and Fred Jungnitsch, St. Charles; Lee Ann and Mike Peterson, Freeland; Mary Jean and David O'Boyle, St. Charles; 11 grandchildren, Misty, Dawn, Joe, Robby, Frank, Nick, Eric, Joel, Micky, Danielle and Kayla; one great-grandson, Justin; a sister, Mary Chartier and her husband Howard, Bay City.  Robert was predeceased by a sister Helen.  Mass of Christian Burial will take place 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 25, 1997 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hemlock.  Rev. Fr. Robert Gohm will officiate with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hemlock.  Friends may call at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel on Saturday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. where friends will meet at 7:30 p.m. for a Scripture Service and at the church on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services.  Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hemlock.

Mary Louise Petre:  The Bay City Times (MI), Sunday, 8 September 2013:  Chartier, Mary L. (Columbus) Bay City, MI -  Mrs. Chartier passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at McLaren Bay Region at the age of 81 years.  She was born August 5, 1932 in Saginaw, MI.  She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and the Good Sams Club.  She enjoyed camping, helping at her church and most of all, spending time with her family.  She is survived by one son, Matthew Derek Columbus; three grandchildren, Leslie Anne Tripp, Chase Matthew Columbus and Ashley Elizabeth Rose Columbus; her step-children, Beverly (Terry) LaFond of Pinconning, Rosemarie (Walter) Lijewski of Clayton, MI, Susan (Don) Lijewski of Kawkawlin, Claudia (Tony) La Framboise of Auburn and Jeffrey (Debbie) Chartier of Bay City; her step-daughter-in-law, Marilyn Chartier of Linwood; three sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Hughes, Lois Short and Marge (John) Rohde; her best loving friend, Kathy Sinclair; and her nieces and nephews, Denise, Helen, Lee Ann, Kurt and Keith Petre.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel A. Columbus, and then married Howard L. Chartier on April 28, 1990 and he preceded her in death on August 27, 2013.  She was also preceded in death by her parents, Delos L. and Bernice Petre and one brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Eileen Petre.  A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Friday, September 13, 2013 at 2 PM at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.  Celebrant will be Rev. Fr. James R. Carlson with private interment in Homer Township Cemetery in Midland, MI.  At the request of Mrs. Chartier, cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors at the church on Friday from 1-2 PM.  Memorial cards for the wishes of the family will be available.  Gephart Funeral Home, Inc.
