Obituary:  Sandy Creek News (NY), Wednesday, 16 May 1973:  Charles Lashomb, SC Mayor, Expires - Mayor Charles E. Lashomb, 70, died May 8, 1973 at the Mercy Hospital, Watertown, where he had been a patient for several months.  He was elected Mayor of the Village of Sandy Creek on Mar. 27, 1973, by an overwhelming majority in one the largest turnouts for a village election in many years. Though he was never able to serve in this office, the community showed its appreciation for the many contributions made by Mr. Lashomb in the village he loved.  He was born Oct. 30, 1902, the son of Elmer and Rose Shattaw Lashomb in North Lawrence and attended school there.  As a young man he worked for Sheffield Milk Company and married Miss Margaret Kiley of Cooperstown on Aug. 11, 1925.  The couple lived briefly in Watertown where Mr. Lashomb was employed by Farrell Plumbing Co.  They moved to Sandy Creek in 1927 and he was associated with Stoker Heating and Plumbing Co., buying the business and the Huested Block in 1930.  "Charlie" was always accommodating in any emergency and prided himself on keeping a complete inventory in his C. E. Lashomb Hardware Store.  Although devoted to his business he enjoyed hunting and fishing with friends and family at his camp in the Boylston area.  Mr. Lashomb served as Sandy Creek Village Trustee from 1932-46 and was an exempt member of the Sandy Creek Fire Department, actively serving for many years.  He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Cabrini Church in Lacona and had served on its boards since the parish was established.  He was also a menber of the Pulaski Council No. 5606 of the Knights of Columbus.  Surviving are his wife Mrs. Margaret Lashomb; a son, Charles (Bud) of Honolulu, Hawaii; three daughters; Sister Margaret Charles, Sisters of St. Joseph, Rochester, Mrs. Helen Clark, Lacona, and Mrs. Alfred (Betty) Court of Mount Vernon; two sisters; Mrs. Roy Dudley and Mrs. Joseph Lockbaum, both of Florida; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.  Services, were held Thursday at St. Francis Church, Lacona, Rev. R. Daniel DeLorme officiating.  There were three other priests assisting Father DeLorme.  They were Father Murphy, Father Whalen and Father Stewart.  Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery in Cooperstown.

- Watertown Daily Times (NY), Wednesday, 9 May 1973: Sandy Creek:  The funeral for Charles E. Lashomb, 70, recently elected mayor of the Village of Sandy Creek and a native of North Lawrence, who died at 6:25 a.m., Tuesday at Mercy Hospital, Watertown will be Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Francis Church, Lacona.  Burial will be at Cooperstown.  Friends may call at the O'Brien Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.  He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Margaret Lashomb; a son, Charles, of Honolulu, Hawaii; three daughters, Sr. Margaret Charles, S.S.J., Rochester; Mrs. Kenneth (Helen) Clark, Lacona, and Mrs. Alfred (Betty) Court, Mount Vernon; two sisters, Mrs. Roy Dudley and Mrs. Joseph Lockbaum, both of Florida; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.  Born Oct. 30, 1902, at North Lawrence, the son of Elmer and Rose Shatraw Lashomb, he attended North Lawrence Schools and worked at the Sheffield Milk plant as a young man.  On Aug. 31, 1925, he married Margaret R. Kiley of Cooperstown and the couple moved to Watertown where he was an apprentice plumber with the Farrell Plumbing Co.  In 1927, they moved to Sandy Creek and he joined the Stoker Heating and Plumbing Firm, which he bought from Mr. Stoker and operated until his death.  He was also the proprietor of the C.E. Lashomb Hardware Store.  Mr. Lashomb served as a village trustee in the 1930's and was elected mayor of the village last month.  He was a member of St. Francis Church, Lacona, Pulaski Council 5606, Knights of Columbus and was a former member of the Sandy Creek fire department.

Obituary:  Pulaski Democrat (NY), Wednesday, 9 November 1977:  Mrs. Margaret K. LaShomb, 80, of 9128 E. First St., widow of Charles LaShomb, died Nov. 4 while visiting at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Helen Clark of Lacona.  Born in Cooperstown, she attended schools there and graduated from Oneonta Normal School.  She taught in the schools at Cooperstown and for the past 50 years resided in Sandy Creek.  She and her husband had owned and operated LaShomb's Hardware Store in Sandy Creek.  She was a member of St. Francis Church, Lacona, and its Altar Rosary Society.  Surviving are three daughters, Sister Margaret Charles, of Rochester, Mrs. Helen Clark of Lacona and Mrs. Betty Court of Mt. Vernon; a son, Charles of Hawaii; 15 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.  Summerville Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.  Services were held Nov. 7 at St. Francis Church, Lacona, Rev. Thomas F. Moffitt officiating.  Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery, Cooperstown.  The Rosary was recited Sunday.

Lashomb:  Democrat and Chronicle (Rochester, NY), Wednesday, 11 March 2015:  LaShomb, Sister Margaret Charles SSJ, Pittsford, NY; March 9, 2015.  Survived by her sisters, Helen and Elizabeth, sister-in-law Sarah, nieces, nephews and her Sisters in Community.  Calling hours will be at the Sisters of St. Joseph Motherhouse, 150 French Road on Thursday, beginning at 7:00 p.m. with a vigil service and continue until 8:30 p.m.  Additional calling hours will be Friday 2:00-4:00 p.m. followed by the Funeral liturgy at 4:00 p.m.  Interment will be Monday at 9 a.m. in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.  Donations may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph's Ministry Fund.

 

Helen A. Lashomb:  Helen L. Clark, 94, of Sandy Creek, New York passed away peacefully at her home Sunday, December 10, 2023 under the care of Hospice of Jefferson County.  Helen was born March 24, 1929 in Orwell, New York to Charles and Margaret (Kiley) LaShomb.  She graduated from Sandy Creek High School and was President of her class.  Helen married Kenneth Clark June 20, 1951.  She served as Town Clerk for Sandy Creek for 14 years and volunteered as the cook at Unity Acres in Orwell for 19 years.  Helen was a member of Christ our Light Catholic Church, she belonged to the Altar and Rosary Society and Red Hat Society, and was active with the organization, Senior Citizens.  Always with a spirit of giving and an infectious laugh, she enjoyed baking, catering events and traveling.  Helen is survived by her children Catherine Clark, Stephen (JoAnne) Clark, Barbara (Doug) Pratt, Michael (Debbie) Clark, John (Susan) Clark, James (Kim) Clark, Margaret Mary Ventura, Thomas Clark, 23 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.  Helen was the heart of her family and delighted in all of her grandchildren.  Every year on Christmas Eve family would gather at her home for a huge celebration that became a treasured Clark tradition.  She also loved flowers, especially orchids and rhododendrons.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Kenneth, and her siblings Sister Margaret Charles, Charles LaShomb and Elizabeth Court.  A calling hour will begin at 9 a.m. Friday, December 15 at Christ Our Light Church in Pulaski followed by a funeral mass at 10 a.m.  Burial will be in the Spring (of 2024) at Woodlawn Cemetery in Sandy Creek.  The family would like to extend an expression of thanks to the caregivers who were by Helen's side throughout the past four years.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor and memory to either Hospice of Jefferson County or the Sandy Creek Backpack Program.

 

Charles Phillip Lashomb:  The Sentinel Record (Hot Springs, AR), Sunday, 21 January 2007:  Charles P. LaShomb of Hot Springs, Ark., passed away on Jan. 18, 2007.  Mr. LaShomb is survived by his beloved wife and daughter, Barbara and Aimee, three sisters, Mrs. Helen Clark, Mrs. Elizabeth Court and Sister Margaret Charles, several special nieces and nephews, many exceptional friends and his faithful companion of many years "Irish."  Mr. LaShomb was a charter member of Pearl City Elks No. 2669, Aiea, Hawaii and for many years a member of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, Honolulu, Hawaii.  A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Catholic Church with Father Erik Pohlmeier officiating.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Charles' name to one's favorite charity.  Charlie's remains will be cremated.  Since that is the case, there will be no tombstone, but if there was it would read " In 75 years, he never met a stranger."
