Obituary:  The Commercial Appeal (Memphis, TN), Friday, 4 June 1948:  (photo)  Services for Benjamin J. Pitre of 1162 Overton Park, for many years a planter and building contractor in the Mississippi Delta, will be held at 2 tomorrow afternoon at his home.  Dr. R. G. Lee will officiate.  Burial will be in Forest Hill with National Funeral Home in charge.  Mr. Pitre was 76.  He died at 11:25 yesterday morning at his home after a year of illness.  He had been in serious condition since January.  Born in Lake Charles, La., he moved to Indianola, Miss., where he had a plantation and carried on his building business.  He was instrumental in the development of Boyle, Miss., and was well-known throughout the Delta.  He retired about 10 years ago and moved to Memphis from Indianola.  He was a member of Bellevue Baptist Church here.  He leaves his wife, Mrs. Nannie Oliver Pitre, and a brother, John C. Pitre of Lake Charles.

Obituary:  The Commercial Appeal (Memphis, TN), Wednesday, 25 April 1951:  Mrs. Nannie Oliver Pitre, whose husband once owned the town of Boyle, Miss., died at 8:30 yesterday morning at her home at 1162 Overton Park after a year's illness.  Services, conducted by Dr. R. G. Lee, will be held at the residence at 3:30 this afternoon.  Burial will be in Forest Hill with National Funeral Home in charge.  Mrs. Pitre, widow of B. J. Pitre, Bolyar County, Miss., planter, moved with him to Memphis from Boyle 34 years ago.  They donated the land on which they built the Boyle Baptist Church.  An active member of Bellevue Baptist Church, Mrs. Pitre sang in the church choir and took part in the Training Union and other activities.  She was also active in the Beethoven Club and similar cultural groups.  She leaves a sister, Mrs. George French, with whom she lived, and two brothers, E. A. Oliver and W. I. Oliver of San Antonio.
