Obituary: Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Sunday, 30 June 1985: Funeral services will be held for Mr. Bennie Pitre, 87, of Opelousas, at 4 p.m. today at Our Lady of Mercy Church. Burial will be at the St. Bridges' cemetery. Mr. Pitre died at 11 p.m. Friday at Prompt Succor Nursing Home. Mr. Pitre was a retired merchant. Mr. Pitre was a member of the Knights of Columbus' Council of Lawtell, and the St. Landry Parish Farm Bureau. Survivors include two sons, James Pitre and Ray Pitre, both of Opelousas; a daughter, Wilma T. Venable, Opelousas; a brother, Octaven Pitre, Opelousas; a sister, Marite Maher, Church Point; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Ardoin's Funeral Home of Opelousas is in charge of arrangements.

Obituary: Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Monday, 24 November 1980: Lawtell - Last rites were held at 10 a.m. today in St. Bridget Catholic Church here for Mrs. Bennie Pitre, the former Louisa Reed, 80, of Opelousas, who died at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Opelousas General Hospital. Burial was in the church mausoleum and directed by the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home on the old Sunset Highway in Opelousas. Survivors include her husband, Bennie Pitre of Opelousas; two sons, James and Ray Pitre, both of Opelousas; one daughter, Mrs. Wilma Venable of Opelousas; one brother, Adler Ledoux of Opelousas; one sister, Mrs. Eraste Charles of Plaisance; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Ladies Altar Society and the Catholic Daughters of St. Bridget Catholic Church of Lawtell; a member of Farm Bureau and the St. Landry Parish Cattleman's Association and a retired member of the home demonstration club.

Reverand Austin Leger will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal will be held in the St. Bridget Catholic Church Cemetery in Lawtell, LA. Readers will be Marilyn Pitre DeJean, Stacey Lormand Dupre and Sarah Kelley Whitehead. Gift bearers will be Lindsey Lemoine Choroszucha, Christina Pitre Castillo, Stephanie Pitre Higgins and Melinda Boss Labbe. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 21, 2017 in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home Chapel from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Wilma, age 95, a resident of Opelousas, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 18, 2017 at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home. Wilma was a member of the Catholic Daughters and the Our Lady of Mercy Ladies' Altar Society. She was also a lay minister for many years at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church and received an Apostolic Blessing from Pope Benedict XVI on November 30, 2011. Wilma enjoyed sewing, crocheting, reading and doing word search books. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her daughters, Loraine Venable Lemoine of Fredericksburg, VA; Carol Venable of Opelousas and her brother, Ray Pitre of Opelousas. She is also survived by one grandchild, Lindsey Lemoine Choroszucha; Stacey Lormand Dupre, who was like her own grandchild and two great-grandchildren, Anna Katheryn Dupre and Amelia Claire Dupre. She is preceded in death by her husband, Merlin Joseph Venable; her parents, Benjamin and Louisa Reed Pitre and her brother, James Pitre. Pallbearers will be Scott Pitre, Gregory Veillon, Ted Labbe, Bryan Labbe, Tom Choroszucha, Barry Labbe, Kevin Labbe and Anthony Castillo. Honorary pallbearers will be Donald Lemoine, Ray Pitre, Murray Labbe, L. T. Dupre, III, Ron Lormand, Terry Rozas and Steven Higgins. Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.

James Pitre: Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Thursday, 10 March 2005: (photo) Funeral services for Mr. James Pitre, 79 will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 11, 2005, in Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church with burial in St. Bridget Church Cemetery in Lawtell. The Rev. Angelo Cremaldi will conduct the services. Mr. Pitre, a native of Prairie Ronde and lifelong resident of Opelousas, died at 3 a.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2005, at Opelousas General Health System. He was the owner of Acadiana Oil and Supply Company for many years in Opelousas and involved in various other businesses. Mr Pitre, a member of Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church, was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Opelousas Elks Lodge No. 1048, the Cruising Cajuns Motorhome Club, the Blue Bird Wonderlodge Club and a past member of the opelousas Lions Club. Mr. Pitre truly enjoyed the outdoors, especially his camp at Three Mile Lake and motorhoming with his family and many friends. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle. He will be greatly missed not only by his family but by dear friends and associates. Mr. Pitre always had a very positive attitude and a zest for life and what it offered. Survivors include his wife, Lou Richard Pitre of Opelousas; two sons, Scott Pitre of Opelousas and Gordon Pitre of Prairie Ronde; one daughter, Mrs. Marilyn Pitre DeJean and her husband, Kenny, of Sunset; four grandchildren, Shellie DeJean Albarado and her husband, Chris, of Leonville, Micki DeJean of Opelousas, Krystal Pitre of Baton Rouge and Khristopher Pitre of Prairie Ronde; and two great-grandchildren, Kameron Soileau of Baton Rouge and Brayden Albarado of Leonville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bennie and Louisa Reed Pitre. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and will continue Friday from 8 a.m. until time of services. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today. Pallbearers will be Gordon Pitre, Ray Pitre, Scott Pitre, Kenny Pitre, Pete Wiltz and Carrol Pitre. Sibille Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
