Obituary: Times Picayune (New Orleans, LA), 3 October 1951 - Mrs.
Victor A. Pitre, Westwego, wife of the Jefferson parish clerk of court, died
at 5:05 a.m. Tuesday in Baptist hospital. Funeral services will be
conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday from the House of Bultman, 3338 St. Charles ave.
Religious rites will follow at 3:30 p.m. from the Salem Evangelical and Reformed
church, 4212 Camp. Interment will be in the Westwego cemetery. Mrs.
Pitre, a native of Vicksburg, Miss., moved to Westwego 48 years ago when she
married her husband. They have resided there since. Mr. Pitre has
been clerk of court 23 years and is a former president of the Jefferson parish
school board. Mrs. Pitre was well known for charity work in Westwego and
was active in the Salem Evangelical and Reformed church of which she was a
member. Survivors include the husband, three daughters, Miss Ruth Pitre
and Mrs. Paul Vegazs of Westwego, and Mrs. John Gray of Baton Rouge;
and five grandchildren.

and lived in Westwego until 1939, when she moved to Baton Rouge. She died

Stuart Ave., from 9 a.m. until religious services at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
Thelma Pitre attended LSU, where she was a member of Delta Zeta sorority and
graduated in 1932 with a degree in home economics. She taught home
economics at Westwego High School for two years and also was the home
demonstration agent in Jefferson Parish for two years. She was a
nutritionist for the state of Louisiana from 1942 to 1944. She was a board
member of the Woman's Club, a charter member of the Camelot Club, served as
president of the LSU Campus Club and was elected to the home economics honorary
society, Phi Epsilon Omega. Mrs. Barber was a member of St. Aloysius
Catholic Church since its founding in 1955. She was preceded in death by
her parents, Vic A. Pitre and Jewel Assenheimer; two sisters, Ruth
Adele Pitre and Olga Pitre Vegas; and her husbands, Roland Frances Samson
Sr., John P. Gray and Louis P. Barber. She is survived by a son,
Roland F. Samson Jr. and wife Susan, Ocean Springs, Miss.; three
grandchildren, Elizabeth Samson, Ipswich, Mass., Roland F. "Skipper"
Samson III and wife Katharine, Pass Christian, Miss., and Stephen Gray
Samson and wife Ginger, Madison, Miss.; five great-grandchildren, John
Gray Samson and Jordan Douglas Samson, both of Madison, and John Corbin
Samson, Caroline Francis Samson and Madeline Hale Samson, all of Pass
Christian; a stepdaughter, Monica Barber Gornell and husband, John,
Allendale, N.J., and three children; a stepson-in-law, Robert Fitzgerald and
wife Barbara, Atlanta, and seven children; six step great-grandchildren;
three nephews, Vic Vegas and wife Jane, Ferriday, Paul Vegas, Pass
