Marie Vesta Pitre:  Crowley Daily Signal (LA), Thursday, 4 June 1925:  Drowned in a Lafayette swimming pool as her husband waited for her near its edge, the body of Mrs. R. C. Mouton, 22, of Lafayette, was taken from the pool after it had been drained, following an unsuccessful search elsewhere for the young woman.  The tragedy occurred yesterday afternoon at about 6 o'clock at the Crystal pool, three miles from Lafayette on the Breaux Bridge road.  Mr. Mouton, who is a retired railway engineer about 55 years of age, and his wife had gone out to the pool about 4 o'clock.  Mr. Mouton did not wish to go into the pool, but his wife went while he waited nearby.  Some time later, probably a little after 6 o'clock, her husband, thinking it about time for her to come out, looked for her and others joined in the search.  It was thought that perhaps she might have gotten out of the pool unobserved, but a careful hunt failed and it was finally decided to drain the pool.  Meanwhile, divers had been going down in the hope of finding the body if it were there.  It was not until the pool was about half drained, however, that W.D. Huff, Jr., dived down and struck the body, and when the pool was drained it was recovered.  Mr. Mouton says that the last time he had seen his wife in the pool was about 5:45 p.m.  Mrs. Mouton was very fond of swimming and was regarded as an expert in the water.  While it was not possible to determine just under what circumstances she drowned, it was thought likely that she might have had a fainting spell, caused by a touch of indigestion.  Mrs. Mouton is survived by her husband, whom she married about a year ago, three sisters, a brother and other relatives.  Funeral services were to be held in Lafayette this afternoon at 4 o'clock.
