Obituary:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Tuesday, 9 July 1968:  Funeral services for Edward Pitre of Opelousas were to be held at 4 p.m. today at St. Landry Catholic Church.  Burial was to be in the church cemetery under direction of Lafond and Son Funeral Home.  Pitre died at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday at the family home, 640 E. Grolee St.  He was 87 years old.  A native of St. Landry Parish, Pitre was a retired farmer and real estate dealer.  He had been ill for several years.  Survivors are his widow, the former Angelina Lambert of Opelousas; four daughters, Mrs. Vincent Boagni and Mrs. J. C. Dimmick, both of Opelousas, Mrs. A. N. Jetty of Houston, Tex., and Mrs. John P. Porter of Corpus Christi, Tex.; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Obituary:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Tuesday, 31 March 1970:  Mrs. Edward Pitre, 89, of Opelousas, died at 8 a.m. today at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Vincent Boagni, 640 E. Grolee St.  She had been a semi-invalid for several years.  Her body is at Lafond and Son Funeral Home, where the rosary will be recited at 7:30 tonight.  Funeral services for Mrs. Pitre will be held at a mass at 3 p.m. Wednesday at St. Landry Catholic Church.  Mrs. Pitre was born March 27, 1881, in Opelousas.  She was a Gold Star mother and a member of Opelousas American Legion Auxiliary 45.  Survivors are four daughters, Mrs. Boagni and Mrs. J.C. Dimmick, both of Opelousas, Mrs. Allen Jetty of Houston, Tex.; and Mrs. John Porter Jr. of Corpus Christi, Tex.; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

May Gladys Pitre:   Daily World (Opelousas, LA), 5 February 1998:  Funeral services for Mrs. Vincent Boagni, the former Gladys Pitre, 92, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas with burial in the church cemetery.  The Rev. Nicky Trahan will conduct the services.  Mrs. Boagni, a resident of Opelousas, died at 6 a.m. Wednesday, February 4, 1998, at her residence.  She was born February 13, 1905, in rural St. Landry Parish, her parents being Edward and Angeline Lambert Pitre, descendants of pioneer families, some of whom made their home here before the War of the Revolution.  She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and several other local clubs and organizations.  Survivors include: two sons, Vincent (Buddy) Boagni Jr. of Dana Point, Calif., and Christopher (Chris) Dietlein Boagni and his wife Sue Karr Boagni, both of Opelousas; two sisters, Mrs. Hazel P. Jetty of Houston, Texas, and Mrs. Martha P. Dimmick of Opelousas; five grandchildren, Leslie B. Moore of Mission Vejaho, Calif., Christopher (Bo) Boagni Jr. of Austin, Texas, Dr. Scott Boagni of Opelousas, Holly B. Cange and Brett Boagni, both of Baton Rouge; and seven great-grandchildren.  Mrs. Boagni was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vincent Boagni; and a daughter, Mrs. Gladys Mae Boagni Waterbury.  Visiting hours will be observed from 5 to 10 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. Friday until time of services.  A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.  Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home on the Old Sunset Road in Opelousas is in charge of arrangements.

Ethel Estelle Pitre:  Advocate (Baton Rouge, LA), Thursday, 6 September 1945 - Lt. Ethel Pitre of Opelousas is killed on Saipan - Opelousas, La., Sept. 5 - In November, 1942, when the women's auxiliary army corps was new Miss Ethel Pitre signed up and became the first girl from Opelousas and St. Landry parish to join the new organization.  Today came word that Miss Pitre, a lieutenant, was killed in a truck accident on Saipan during combat operations.  The first to enlist, she became the first woman from the city and parish to lose her life in this war.  Word of the lieutenant's death came from Capt. John Porter of the Signal Corps, her brother-in-law, who was stationed on the island at the time.  He reported that Lt. Pitre was aboard a truck carrying medical supplies and it overturned.  She died a day after the accident occurred.  Capt. Porter was present for the funeral rites on the battle-scarred island.  Lt. Pitre is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Pitre, and four sisters, Mrs. Vincent Boagni, Mrs. J.D. Dommick and Mrs. John Porter, Opelousas and Mrs. Allen Jetty, Houston, Tex.  A graduate of Opelousas High school and of SLI at Lafayette, Lt. Pitre was a teacher in the Eunice schools prior to her enlistment.  She took basic training at Ft. Des Moines, Iowa, where she won staff sergeant stripes.  Later she was transferred to Daytona Beach, Fla., and placed in charge of recruits.  Then came a transfer to Camp Crowder, Mo., and while there she was selected for training in physiotherapy and sent to the University of Wisconsin for a nine-month course.  Upon graduation she was given an honorable discharge from the Wac and six hours later was sworn in to the Army of the United States as a second lieutenant.  Prior to going overseas, Lt. Pitre served at Moore General hospital in North Carolina and at El Paso, Tex.

Martha Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Sunday, 2 January 2005:  Martha Pitre Dimmick, 93, born in Plaisance and a resident of Opelousas, died at 6:35 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at her home.  She was a housewife and a retired legal and CPA secretary.  She was an active member of the Opelousas chapters of DAR and AARP.  She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Foundation CODIFIL, Imperial St. Landry Genealogical and Historical Society and the National Trust for Historical Preservation.  Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Mistric Dimmick, of Baton Rouge; three granddaughters, Lindsey Dimmick Herrington and her husband, Ken, both of Baton Rouge, Melanie Dimmick Kumrow and her husband, Jeff, both of North Augusta, S.C., and Martha Marie "Mimi" Dimmick, of Baton Rouge; five great-grandchildren, Adam Dimmick, Kate Kumrow and Claire Kumrow, all of North Augusta, S.C., and Aaron and Addison Dimmick, of Baton Rouge.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Pitre and Angelina Lambert Pitre; her siblings; her husband, J.C. Dimmick; and her son, Frank Dimmick II.  A memorial Mass in her honor will be held at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church on Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005, at 11 a.m.  The family would like to say a special "thank you" to her caregivers, Theresa Ortego, Betsy Hargroder, and Regional Home Health Hospice.  Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Roy Edward Pitre:  Beaumont Journal (TX), Friday, 23 November 1934:  Opelousas, La., Nov. 23 - Funeral services for Roy Pitre, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Pitre, prominent planter of this vicinity, who died of an accidental gun wound Thursday, were held Friday morning at the Catholic church with burial in the cemetery here.  The parents of the boy found the body on the floor when they went to investigate a shot.  The youth was apparently cleaning his revolver which was accidentally discharged, the bullet entering his abdomen and ranging upward to pierce his heart.

- State Times Advocate (Baton Rouge, LA):  Roy Edward Pitre, 20 years old, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Pitre of this city, who was fatally wounded when his gun accidentally exploded, was buried Friday morning at 10 o'clock from the family residence with services and interment in the Catholic church and cemetery.  Young Pitre had retired to his room and was evidently looking over his gun preparatory to using it on a hunting trip, when it exploded, the bullet hitting his chest.  He died before physicians arrived.  The deceased is survived by his parents and the following sisters: Mrs. Vincent Boagni and Miss Ethel Pitre of this city; Mrs. Allen Jetty of Houston and Misses Martha and Grace Pitre of Waco.

 

Grace Elena Pitre:  Corpus Christi Caller-Times (Corpus Christi, TX), Saturday, 13 November 1971:  Mrs. John B. Porter Jr., 54, of 3221 Orlando, died at 9:19 a.m. yesterday in a local hospital after a long illness.  A native of Opelousas, La., she had lived in Corpus Christi 13 years.  Her given name was Grace.  Wake Bible services will be at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow in the Kenne and Carter Funeral Chapel.  Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in the Corpus Christi Cathedral.  The Rev. Martin McGuill, chaplain of the Corpus Christi State School, will officiate at both services.  Burial will be in Seaside Memorial Park.  Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Mrs. Robert Gick of Warrington, Pa., Mrs. James Pritchard of Kingsville, and Mrs. Stephen Martin of Corpus Christi; one son, John B. Porter III of Corpus Christi; three sisters, Mrs. Gladys Boahni of Opelousas, Mrs. Hazel Jetty of Houston and Mrs. J. C. Dimmick of Sunset, La.; and two grandchildren.  In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the chapel fund of the Corpus Christi State School.
