Misc:  Watertown Daily Times (Watertown, NY), Friday, 15 July 1938:  Massena, July 15 - The disappearance of gasoline from the county road machinery in use on the new Massena-Helena road now under construction was solved and three Massena men are in the county jail at Canton as a result of a thrilling midnight chase over country roads Wednesday night.  Gas has been disappearing from the machinery regularly and Wednesday night Sargeant H. Michael McCann and Troopers C. A. Horney and Johnny O'Brien were patrolling in the vicinity watching for any movements around the machinery.  About a half-mile from the machinery toward Massena they came upon a car traveling toward Massena without lights and turned and gave chase.  The car, traveling at high speed turned onto the town ridge road and after a chase of about three miles, tipped over on a sharp curve.  Frank Rabetoy, 29, R.D. No. 5, who was driving the car, owned by his brother, William, was thrown clear of the car; Ray LaShombe, 24, 56 Parker avenue, was caught in the car; and Floyd LaShombe, 31, 56 Parker avenue, was pinned under the car.  The officers removed the car from LaShombe and got his brother out of it and proceeded in the police car to Winthrop where Dr. Robert H. Gelder treated the three men for multiple cuts and bruises, none being seriously injured, however.  They were brought to Massena and confined the balance of the night in the Massena jail and then taken before Justice of the Peace Floyd Pike, of the town of Brasher, and arraigned on petit larceny charges.  They all pleaded guilty and were sentenced to pay fines of $25 each with 90 days in jail, the days to be suspended on payment of the fines.  Rabetoy was also fined $10 for reckless driving after pleading to that charge.  All were taken to jail in default of fines.  The car was badly wrecked.
