Misc.:  Lafayette Gazette (LA), 17 August 1901:  Sosthene Pitre, of St. Landry parish, who will be manager of the Lafayette Compress this season, was in Lafayette.  Mr. Pitre and his family will become permanent residents of Lafayette.

 

Obituary:  Clarion News (Opelousas, LA), Thursday, 30 July 1931:  Sosthene Pitre, 77, Funeral attended by Many Friends Tues. - Sosthene Pitre, 77, one of the better known citizens of Washington, died at the family residence Monday and hundreds of friends paid their last tribute to this beloved man at the funeral services held at the Washington Catholic Church Tuesday morning.  Interment followed in Cedar Hill Cemetery.  Mr. Pitre, whose two brothers recently died, was widely known in the northern part of St. Landry.  For many years he had been prominently connected with community developments and had served as city clerk for a long time.  Surviving are his wife and one daughter, Rose.

Obituary:  State Times Advocate (Baton Rouge, LA), Wednesday, 27 February 1935 - Opelousas, La., Feb. 27 - Funeral services were conducted in Washington, La., Monday afternoon for Mrs. Cora Pitre, 78 years, widow of the late Sosthene Pitre, and a sister of Mrs. W.R. LaCombe of this city.  Mrs. Pitre died at the family home on Pine street, Washington, and services were held at the Catholic church, with interment in the Cedar Hill cemetery.

- Clarion News (Opelousas, LA), Thursday, 28 February 1935:  Mrs. Cora Pitre, 78, died Tuesday morning at 12:15 at the family home in Washington.  Funeral services were held at the Washington Catholic Church and interment followed at Cedar Hill Cemetery.  Mrs. Pitre was preceded in death by her husband, the former Sosthene Pitre, several years ago.  Survivors are one daughter, Miss Rose Pitre, Washington, and one sister, Mrs. Austin LaCombe, Opelousas.  Hundreds mourned the death of Mrs. Pitre, one of Washington's more beloved women.  She was widely known for her kind and charitable disposition and her passing leaves a host of friends who will miss her.

Rose Marie Pitre:  The Daily Advertiser (Lafayette, LA), Friday, 20 March 1992:  Baton Rouge - Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2025 Stuart Ave. for Rose Pitre Fridge Bahlinger, 87, who died 12:40 a.m. Thursday, March 19, 1992 in Ollie Steele Burden Manor Nursing Home in Baton Rouge.  Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.  The Rev. Hubert Brou will officiate.  Survivors include three daughters, Martha B. Haase and Frances B. Fremin of Baton Rouge, and Charlotte B. Walter of Sherman Oaks, Calif.; four sons, Peter F. Bahlinger, Frederick J. Bahlinger Jr., David K. Bahlinger and Lawrence J. Bahlinger of Baton Rouge; 35 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Russell Fridge; second husband, Frederick J. Bahlinger Sr.; and a son, Eugene T. Bahlinger.  She taught school in Opelousas and Washington.  She was a graduate of the University of Southwestern Louisiana, member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and Ladies Altar Society.  She was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, the Tuesday Afternoon Bridge Club, the Friday Morning Study Club, and Christ the King Auxiliary at LSU.  In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Aloysius Catholic Church Development Fund.  Visitation will be held at St. Aloysius Catholic Church today from 9 a.m. to service time.  Rabenhorst Funeral Home, Baton Rouge is in charge of arrangements.
