Obituary: Detroit Free Press (Detroit, MI), Sunday, 6 February 1949: Brawler dies as fight spills into street: A barroom fight that spilled out into W. Fort brought death to one brawler and a broken leg to the other under the wheels of a car early Saturday. Russell Peters, 32, of 6748 Paige, Van Dyke, was dead on arrival at Receiving Hospital. His opponent, Moses Mackey, 42, of 4034 Vinewood, was found to have a compound fracture of the left leg. They were struck by a car driven by Patsy Dettore, 36, of 10220 E. Outer Drive, who was exonerated by police. Witnesses said Peters, a tool and die maker at the Ternstedt Manufacturing Co. had quit his job Friday night and was in a bar at 6343 W. Fort in a quarrelsome mood. He and Mackey got into a fight that continued outside the bar and into the street. Peters' death raised the traffic toll so far this year to 29, compared with 18 at this time last year.

Loving wife of Richard for 28 years; beloved mother of Bryan (fiancée Donna Begley) Hooper, Craig (Tonya) Hooper, and Barry (Jacqueline) Hooper; step-mother of Jeffery (Beth) Finkbeiner; grandmother of Katelyn, Zachery, Kendall, Shelby, Garrett, Rachel, Kevin, and Landon; great-grandmother of Elijah; sister of Roger (Jeri) Peters, Patrick (Patricia) Peters, Dennis (Maria) Peters, and the late Maureen. Also survived by the father of her children, Duane Hooper; her beloved dog, Kyoko; and daughter-in-law, Lori Hooper. Sharleen retired from Pontiac Motors in 1992 after 30 years of service. She loved canning and cooking and was lovingly known as the "professional shopper". She was dearly loved and will be deeply missed. Funeral Service Thursday, February 9, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Coats Funeral Home - Waterford. Burial follows Ottawa Park Cemetery, Clarkston. Family will receive friends Wednesday 3 to 9 p.m.
