Obituary:  The Times-Picayune (New Orleans, LA), Saturday, 25 February 2006:  Robert A. Pitre, Sr., a retired self employed businessman, died at West Jefferson Medical Center on Thursday, February 23, 2006.  Beloved husband of Shirley Manning Pitre for 65 years.  Father of Judge Robert A. Pitre, Jr. and William H. Pitre.  Father-in-law of Jane Gillis Pitre and Sylvia Thomasson Pitre.  Son of the late Henry Pitre and Eugenie Creteni Pitre.  Brother of Irene Pitre Triche and the late August, Henry, Eugene, Louis, Alexie and Ophelia Pitre, and Delphine Pitre Cheramie.  Grandfather of Michele Pitre Milano, Melanie Pitre Vigelis, David M. Pitre and Stephen A. Pitre.  Great grandfather of Robert Anthony Pitre Klotz, Gillis Wade Pitre Klotz, Michele "Mia' Jane Milano, Rachel Marie Vigelis and Madeline Grace Pitre.  Step great-grandfather of Joel Milano.  Age 85 years.  A native of Cut Off, La. and a resident of Crown Point, La. for the past 70 years.  Mr. Pitre was a combat veteran of WWII, serving in the European Theater.  He participated in the D-Day Invasion of Omaha Beach in Normandy and served until the end of the war.  After he returned from the war, Mr. Pitre obtained his GED while he worked in Pitre's Store in Crown Point, subsequently buying the store from his brother, Eugene.  He and his wife, Shirley, operated the store until 1960.  He was a co-founder of West Bank Towing Company and Gulf Mississippi Marine Corporation, "The Gulf Fleet".  Mr. Pitre served on the Louisiana Mineral Board under the administration of Gov. John McKeithen and on the Lafitte-Larose Highway Commission.  He was a past member of the VFW, the American Legion, the Marrero Lion's Club, the Crown Point Homeowner's Association and the Krewe of Janus.  He also served as a member of the Board of Directors of Guaranty Bank, Jefferson Guaranty Bank, Mercantile Bank & Trust Co. and Investors Bank & Trust Company.  Mr. Pitre was an active member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Crown Point.  Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at Mothe Funeral Home, Harvey, La. on Saturday, February 25, 2006 at 1:00 pm.  Interment Westlawn Memorial Park, Gretna.  Parlors will be open on Saturday morning from 10:00 am until mass time.  In lieu of flowers, please offer masses or make donations in his name to the American Cancer Society.

Obituary:  The Times-Picayune (New Orleans, LA), Tuesday, 10 October 2006:  Shirley Manning Pitre died at home at approximately 5:35 a.m. on Saturday, October 7, 2006.  She was 82 years old.  Mrs. Pitre was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and lived in Crown Point for the past 67 years.  She was an active member of St. Pius Catholic Church in Crown Point.  Mrs. Pitre was the beloved wife of Robert A. Pitre, Sr., who predeceased her on February 23, 2006, for 65 years; mother of Judge Robert A. Pitre, Jr. of Crown Point and William H. Pitre of New Orleans; mother-in-law of Jane Gillis Pitre of Crown Point and mother-in-law of Sylvia Thomasson Pitre of New Orleans.  Mrs. Pitre was the daughter of the late Sidonie Creppel Manning and William Sherley Manning and sister of the late William S. Manning.  Grandmother of Michele Pitre Milano of Metairie, Louisiana, Melanie Pitre Vigelis of Birmingham, Alabama, David M. Pitre of Fairhope, Alabama, Stephen A. Pitre of Pensacola, Florida and great-grandmother of Robert Anthony Pitre Klotz, Gillis Wade Pitre Klotz, Michele "Mia" Jane Milano, Rachel Marie Vigelis and Madeline Grace Pitre and step-grandmother of Joel Milano.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral Mass at Mothe Funeral Home, Marrero, Louisiana on Tuesday, October 10, 2006 at 11:00 a.m.  Visitation before the Mass beginning at 9:00 a.m.  Interment at Westlawn Cemetery in Gretna, following the funeral mass.  In lieu of flowers, please offer Masses or make donations in her name to the American Cancer Society.
