Obituary:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Sunday, 17 March 2002: (photo included)  Melville - Funeral services for Mr. Phillip Pitre, 80, will be held 11 a.m., today, at First Pentecostal Church here with burial in the First Pentecostal Cemetery.  Officiating will be the Rev. Ray Majors, pastor of the First Pentecostal Church of Melville and brother-in-law to Mr. Pitre.  The Rev. Majors will be assisted by Mr. Pitre's brother, the Rev. Pershing Pitre.  Mr. Pitre was a native of Prairie Ronde and a resident of Melville for over 60 years.  He had retired from the Louisiana State Department of Transportation with 20 years of experience in ferry boat work.  Mr. Pitre was a member of the First Pentecostal Church of Melville.  Survivors include: his wife of 57 years, the former Floydell Majors Pitre of Melville; two sons, Donald P. Pitre and his wife, Faye, and Floyd Pitre and his wife, Sandra, all of Melville; a daughter, Margie P. Kennedy and her husband, Roger, of Melville; a brother, the Rev. Pershing Pitre and his wife, Mary, of Port Allen; two sisters, Elsie Smith and her husband, Jack, of Port Allen, and Elter "Tim" Kleinpeter and her husband, Huey, of Gonzales; eight grandchildren, Amber Pitre, Arlen Pitre, Blaine Pitre, Crystal Pitre, Brandon Pitre, Robert Kennedy, Rodney Kennedy and Kenneth Wheaton; five great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Daniel, Jessie, Morgan and Garrette; and a host of relatives and friends.  Mr. Pitre was preceded in death by his parents, Amos A. Pitre and the former Lezda Deville Pitre, natives of Prairie Ronde; three brothers, Dallas Pitre, Levens Pitre and Dennis Pitre; and two sisters, Ella Mae Pitre and Joyce Lee Pitre.  Pallbearers will be Arlen Pitre, Blaine Pitre, Brandon Pitre, Robert Kennedy, Rodney Kennedy and Kenneth Wheaton.  Honorary pallbearers will be Jessie Pitre, Garrette Pitre and Daniel Wheaton.  Visitation is 8 a.m. until time of service, today, at First Pentecostal Church of Melville.  Melancon Funeral Home of Opelousas is in charge of arrangements.

Floyd Wayne Pitre:  The Acadiana Advocate (LA), Thursday, 1 December 2016:  Pitre, Floyd Wayne - Funeral services will be held Friday, December 2, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in First Pentecostal Church of Melville for Floyd Pitre, age 68, who passed away Monday, November 28, 2016 at The Crossing at Clarity Hospice in Baton Rouge.  Interment will be in First Pentecostal Church Cemetery.  The Rev. Bro. Samuel Hamm, pastor of First Pentecostal Church of Melville, will officiate at the services.  Mr. Pitre was a native and lifelong resident of Melville.  He retired after 40 years as an operating engineer.  Floyd will be missed by many stranded travellers that he rescued over the years from all over the States.  He was an avid mechanic and genuinely loved using his skills to help everybody he could.  Mr. Pitre was a member of the First Pentecostal Church of Melville and was heavily involved in the building maintenance.  Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Sandra Phillips Pitre; one daughter, Crystal Pitre; one son, Brandon Pitre and his wife, Marita; one brother, Donald Pitre and his wife, Faye; one sister, Margie Kennedy and her husband, Roger; and one grandchild, Jessie Pitre and his companion, Megan Christie.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip Pitre and the former Floydell Majors.  The family requests that visiting hours be observed at First Pentecostal Church of Melville from 5:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. Thursday and will continue at First Pentecostal Church of Melville from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Friday.  Pallbearers will be Brandon Pitre, Jessie Pitre, Arlen Pitre, Blaine Pitre, Robert Kennedy, Rodney Kennedy, Garrett Pitre and Daniel Wheaton.  Melancon Funeral Home of Opelousas is in charge of arrangements.
