- Detroit Free Press (Detroit, MI), Tuesday, 20 January 1903: Stole to keep his family warm - Israel Peters, who lives near the Windsor board of works building, had no fuel Sunday and his wife and children were threatened with death from exposure. He went to the city building and confiscated a number of cedar scantling, and had a warm fire for the remainder of the day. Yesterday the theft became known and he was arrested and fined $10.50. For this money he could have purchased upwards of a cord of good wood from the city.

- The Windsor Star (Ont), Monday, 16 November 1903: The friends of Israel Pitres of Sandwich West want him sent to London asylum. Pitres was arranged in the police court on Saturday and allowed to go, as it was apparent at that time that he was quite rational. None of his friends was willing to supply the information necessary for a warrant of commitment, not wishing to have anything to do with having the man committed to the asylum. Ex-Warden William Price called at police headquarters this morning and has promised to give the data for the warrant which will send the unfortunate to London.
