Obituary:  The Windsor Star (Ont), Saturday, 11 October 1941:  (photo included)  Father of 14 loses life - Albert J. Pitre is killed in accident at Ford No. 2 plant - Collapse of a one-ton steel door at the Ford Company No. 2 plant yesterday fatally crushed the father of 14 children, Albert J. Pitre, 59, of 405 Belle Isle View boulevard, Riverside, who died on the way to the Ford Company Hospital.  A stockman, Pitre was engaged at the time in loading metal scrap with his back towards the door.  Two workmen working to release it after it had jammed are said by company officials to have raised it off its tracks, and it fell into the building without warning, pinning Pitre's body against the concrete floor.  Almost superhuman efforts on the part of the workmen enabled them to pull the victim out.  Company physicians attended him on the scene and then ordered him removed to the company hospital.  Dr. James M. Young, coroner, released the body to Albemy Janisse funeral home.  A post mortem was held last night and today the coroner said an inquest was unlikely.  The two workmen, E. Percy Smith, 888 Felix avenue, and Joseph Bullock, 2948 Tecumseh road, were the only witnesses.  They explained that the huge door had stuck and that they had used a crowbar to try and budge it.  During this work they lifted the door up in such a way that it slipped out of its runway and fell sideways onto Pitre.  Smith told officials that Pitre was loading scrap metal at the time into a container and had his back towards them.  He did not see the massive gate falling, and it was believed never knew what had struck him.  "We were able to raise the door enough to pull him out," Smith is said to have told police.  "Plant doctors were on the scene in a matter of seconds."  So extensive were the injuries to the dying man that he was not removed immediately, but everything possible was done in an attempt to save him.  The ambulance was called and rushed him to the hospital.  He died on the way.  Yesterday afternoon city police investigated and Detective Sergeant Jim Yokom completed a report for the city.  Surviving Mr. Pitre are his wife, Annie, nee Lauzon; mother, Mrs. Eloise Pitre, Sandwich East; nine sons, Reginald, Gabriel, Louis, Bernard, Gerard, Lionel, Amable and Romeo, of Riverside; Gilbert, of Tecumseh; five daughters, Mrs. James Noel, Riverside; Mrs. Jack Charlton, Toronto; Mrs. Marsnal Gray, Windsor; Mrs. Norman Drouillard, Riverside; Mildred, living at home; seven sisters, Mrs. Henry Gelina, Mrs. William Gelina, Mrs. B. Hollywood, Philadelphia; Mrs. Charles Mero and Mrs. Charles Drouillard, Windsor; five brothers, Ephraim, Tecumseh; George, Detroit; David, Ernest and Delore, Sandwich East, and 20 grandchildren.  Rev. Wilfred Langlois will conduct the funeral services from the residence, 405 Belle Isle View boulevard, Monday at 9:30 a.m. to Ste. Rose de Lima Church, at 10 a.m.  Assisting Rev. Fr. Langlois will be Rev. John Noel and Rev. J.E. Kelly.  Interment will be in St. Alphonsus Cemetery.
