Obituary:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Sunday, 29 January 1961:  (photo included) Matthew V. (Matt) Pitre died suddenly of a heart attack at 1:35 a.m. Saturday at his home, 333 N. Market.  He was 57.  He was employed in the Daily World circulation department, as an area distributor.  He also was part-time clerk at Yambilee Courts.  Mr. Pitre was, his wife said, well Friday.  He worked as usual.  Friday night he watched television late, until after midnight.  Then, while shaving, about 1 a.m. Saturday, he was stricken with chest pains.  Death was attributed by an attending physician to coronary thrombosis.  Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at St. Landry Catholic Church.  Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery at Washington.  The body will be at First National Funeral Home until time of service.  Mr. Pitre was born March 22, 1903, at Whiteville.  He resided most of his boyhood and early life at Washington.  He is survived by his wife, the former Jean Fontenot; two daughters, Mrs. William Fairley and Carolyn Faith Pitre, both of Opelousas; two sisters, Mrs. Leo Lafleur and Miss Elvie Pitre, both of Opelousas, and five grandchildren.  Pallbearers will be J.Y. Fontenot, Jules Pitre, Leo Pitre, Walter Baillio, Charles Carson and Renaud Carson.

Matthew Vernon Hargrove Pitre:  Opelousas News (Opelousas, LA), Thursday, 27 December 1928:  M. V. Pitre, Jr., infant child of Mr. and Mrs. M. V. Pitre, born on November 19, died December 12.  The funeral services were held at the Catholic Church with interment in the Catholic Cemetery.

 

Beverly Joan Pitre:  The Orange Leader (TX), Wednesday, 9 February 2011 - Claybar Funeral Home:  Beverly 'Bev' Pitre Gill, 76, of Orange passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2011.  Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 11, 2011 at First Baptist Church in Orangefield.  Reverend Forrest Wood will be officiating.  Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery in Sour Lake.  A gathering of family and friends will be from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday at the church.  Mrs. Gill was born October 4, 1934 in Opelousas, LA to Matthew Vernon Pitre and Emma Jean (Fontenot) Gill.  She was an active member at First Baptist Church of Orangefield where she was a part of the Sterling Silver Seniors.  She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Romona Faith Duplechain and two grandchildren.  'Bev' is survived by her daughter, Beverly Joan Fairley Broussard; sons, Nair Matthew Fairley and wife, Colleen, Kelly Gawain Fairley and wife, Brenda, William Morton Fairley II and Shannon Shea Fairley; fifteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren and her sister, Carolyn Faith Smith.  The family requests that memorial donations be made to First Baptist Church in Orangefield.

Paul Dule Pitre:  The Opelousas Herald (Opelousas, LA), Friday, 20 October 1939:  Rev. Cooney, Catholic Priest of Washington, was in charge of funeral services Friday held for 11-month-old Paul Dule Pitre, son of Mr. and Mrs. Matt V. Pitre.  Final services were at Cedar Hill Cemetery at 4:30 in Washington.  Pallbearers were Elmo and William Pefferkorn, Renault Blanchard, and George Daigle.  Besides the parents, one sister, Beverly, survives.  The sympathy of Washington and Opelousas friends were extended the Pitres.
