Obituary:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Wednesday, 18 October 1967:  Leo Robert Pitre, 65, of Myrtle St., Opelousas, died at 9:45 p.m. Tuesday at a local nursing home.  He had been ill for three months.  Pitre, a retired truck driver, was a member of Our Lady of Mercy, Knights of Columbus Council 3409.  His body is at Lafond and Son Funeral Home, where the rosary will be recited at 7 tonight.  Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church.  Burial will be in the St. Landry Catholic Church cemetery.  Pitre is survived by his widow, the former Volina Manuel of Opelousas; one son, Sidney Pitre of Opelousas; two brothers, Walter Pitre of Lawtell and Jules Pitre of Prairie Ronde; and one sister, Mrs. Edgar Prudhomme of Lawtell.

Obituary:   The Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Thursday, 1 December 2005 - Funeral services for Mrs. Volina Manuel "Nina" Pitre were held on Wednesday, November 30th, 2005 at 11 a.m. at St. Landry Catholic Church with burial at St. Landry Cemetery.  Msgr. Robert Romero conducted the services.  Mrs. Pitre, 102, died November 28th, 2005 at Prompt Succor Nursing Home.  She was a devoted wife and mother.  She was a mainstay of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church for sixty years, administering to the needs of the church through the Ladies Altar Society and to the needs of the pastors of the parish.  She is survived by her daughter-in-law Mary Sylvester Pitre of Opelousas, a host of nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents Cepherie Manuel and Julie Pommier Manuel; her husband Leo Pitre and her son, Sidney Pitre.  Visitation was at St. Landry Catholic Church Wednesday from 10 a.m. till time of service.  Lafond Ardoin Funeral Home, Sunset Hwy, Opelousas, was in charge of the arrangements.

John Sidney Pitre:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Sunday, 5 Jul 1998:  Funeral services for Mr. John 'Sidney' Pitre, 60, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Opelousas with burial in Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.  The Revs. David Broussard and Wilfred Sylvester will officiate.  Mr. Pitre died at 2:15 p.m. Saturday, July 4, 1998, in his Opelousas residence.  A veteran of the U.S. Navy, was employed for 22 years by Church Point Beverage Wholesale.  Survivors include his wife, Mary Sylvester Pitre of Opelousas and his mother, Voline Manuel Pitre of Opelousas.  Mr. Pitre was preceded in death by his father, Leo Robert Pitre.  Visitation will be held from 2-10 p.m. Sunday and from 7 a.m. Monday until the time of services.  A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Saturday.  Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home on the Old Sunset Highway, Opelousas, is in charge of arrangements.
