Margaret Katherine Peters: Monrovia News Post (Monrovia, CA), Thursday, 23 August 1979: Margaret K. Caputo, a 28-year resident of Monrovia, died Aug. 18 in Duarte. She is survived by her husband, Joseph A.; five sons Donald, Laguna Beach; Peter, Lake Tahoe; Joseph, Laguna; and Anthony and David, both of Monrovia; daughter Melea Caputo of San Gabriel; brothers Bernard and Frederick Peters, both of New Hampshire; sister Mary Cevitt, New Hampshire, and four grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial was said Aug. 21 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with interment on Aug. 22 at Live Oak Memorial Park, directed by Douglass and Zook Mortuary.

Bernard Lawrence Peters: Bernard Lawrence Peters, 92, of North Conway died peacefully Tuesday morning, May 5, 2017, at Mineral Springs Nursing Home in North Conway. Born in North Conway on Oct. 11, 1924, to the late Lawrence and Mary (Sheehan) Peters, Bernie grew up in the valley and began his love of skiing and the outdoors through the Eastern Slope Ski Club Junior Program. In high school, he traveled weekends with the Eastern Slope Ski Club to races throughout the valley and New England. At the end of his senior year, he enlisted in the Tenth Mountain Ski Division and from 1943-1945 taught skiing and mountaineering skills to the troops at Camp Hale in Colorado. On Jan. 4, 1945, he left Virginia with the 85th Mountain Infantry and traveled the length of Italy to fight in the North Apennines and the Po Valley. Wounded near the end of World War II at Montecatini, Bernie was later awarded a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star for his service. After returning to North Conway, he began his carpentry business and spent his winters at Cranmore where he was a member of the ski patrol and later a ski instructor for the Hannes Schneider Ski School. He remained active at Cranmore as an instructor and ski school director until the late 1970s, recently being inducted into the Cranmore Snowsports Hall of Fame. Bernie was an active member of the North Conway Fire Department for many years, retiring as first deputy chief in 2000. He loved to travel and be outdoors fishing, hunting, hiking and skiing. Later in life, he took up country line dancing and square dancing to stay active. He leaves behind his daughter and son-in-law Candace and Douglas Armstrong of Bartlett; friend and longtime, partner Barbara Wilkins of North Conway; sister, Mary Leavitt of Albany; a granddaughter, Jessica Armstrong of North Adams, Mass.; and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Lillian (Blum) Peters; a sister, Margaret Caputo; brothers, Frederick and Joseph; and granddaughter, Katrina Armstrong. There will be no public calling hours. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 19, at Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church in North Conway with Deacon Jack Carey as celebrant. A committal service with military honors will follow at the Our Lady of the Mountains Cemetery in North Conway. A reception will be held at Cranmore Resort's Zip's Pub at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, make donations to the Eastern Slope Ski Club or the New England Ski Museum in North Conway. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway.

Frederick Charles Peters: Frederick Charles Peters was the son of Lawrence and Mary (Feehan) Peters, and husband of Sydney Hawkins. He grew up in North Conway, NH and attended Kennett High School. After graduating high school, Fred enlisted in the Air Force in 1951, serving active duty in both the Korean conflict and Vietnam war as a flight engineer. During his military career, he flew in the B-17 Flying Fortress, A/B-26 Avengers, and C-130 Hercules, and received the Distinguished Flying Cross. His primary mission during tours of duty in Vietnam, Guam, and Hawaii was search & rescue. He retired from the Air Force after 20 years as a Technical Sergeant in 1971 when he moved with his family to Errol, NH. He leaves behind his wife of more than 60 years, Sydney of Errol, NH; his daughters Dawn Marie Hatch of Littleton NH; Valerie Berkley of Auburn NH; son Mark Peters of Hollis, ME; and son Scott Peters of Derby, VT; his brother Bernard, sister Mary, five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister Margarete and a brother, Joseph.
