Obituary:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Friday, 14 July 1972:  Washington - Lawrence Pitre, Washington business man, died at 9:30 a.m. today at Opelousas General Hospital.  He was 61.  Pitre had been ill since February.  His body is at Lafond and Son Funeral Home in Opelousas.  Arrangements for services are incomplete.  Pitre was born and reared in Grand Prairie but had resided in Washington all his adult life.  He is survived by his widow, the former Hilda Soileau of Washington; three sons, Donald and Glenn Pitre, both of Washington, and William 'Billy' Pitre, staff member of the Daily World, Opelousas; two daughters, Mrs. Levoys Smith and Mrs. James Bertrand, both of Opelousas.  Other survivors are his father, Laurent Pitre of Opelousas; a brother, Floyd Pitre of Eunice; two sisters, Mrs. M. J. Doucet of Opelousas and Mrs. H. H. Thoms of Rosa; and 18 grandchildren.

Obituary:  Daily World (Opelousas, LA), Thursday, 28 February 2002:  Washington - Funeral services for Mrs. Hilda S. Pitre, 92, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church here with burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery.  The Rev. Ralph Landry will conduct the services.  Mrs. Pitre, a resident and native of Washington, died at 8:42 a.m. Wednesday, February 27, 2002, in Opelousas General Hospital.  She worked for Abdalla Clothing Store in Opelousas for 40 years as a clothing salesperson.  Mrs. Pitre belonged to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Rosary Group of Washington.  Survivors include: two daughters, Jacqueline (Jackie) Smith and husband Lee, and Carole Bertrand, both of Opelousas; three sons, Donald Pitre and wife Joy, and Glenn Pitre and wife Tessie, both of Washington, and William (Billy) Pitre and wife Glenda of Opelousas; 21grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.  Mrs. Pitre was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence J. Pitre; her parents, Gilbert and Mary Welch Soileau; and a grandchild, Mickey Pitre.  Visiting hours will be observed from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. Friday until time of services.  A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.  Sibille Funeral Home, 2309 George Drive, Opelousas, is in charge of arrangements.
