Obituary:  Watertown Daily Times (NY), Wednesday, 10 December 1997: Evans Mills - A private funeral for James W. Pete Sr., 69, 29487 Amsted Road, Evans Mills, will be Friday morning with the Rev. Elaine White, pastor of Philadelphia United Methodist Church, officiating.  Spring burial will be in Sandy Hollow Cemetery, Philadelphia.  Mr. Pete died Tuesday at Samaritan Medical Center, where he had been a patient since Dec. 4.  Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Frederick Bros. Funeral Home in Theresa.  Mr. Pete was a truck driver for G.L.F., now known as Agway, and worked on the Harold Northrup farm.  He purchased and operated a farm on Elm Ridge Road.  Mr. Pete retired from farming in the late 1980s, but continued to reside on the farm.  He was an active bowler and a member of the Senior Bowlers League in Watertown.  Born Sept. 10, 1928, at Alamosa, Colo., a son of Tenos H. and Bonnie Hunt Pete, he attended Theresa High School.  He married Frances Christman on Sept. 8, 1946, at Theresa Methodist Church, with the Rev. Kenneth Jones officiating.  Surviving besides his wife and mother, now Bonnie Pete Ward, Bend, Ore., are two daughters, Sandra Crump, Evans Mills, and Cynthia Wing, Freeville; two sons, James W. Jr., Canton, and Joe W., Boca Raton, Fla.; a sister, Mrs. Richard (Clara) Fulterson, Watertown; a brother, Tenos Pete, Oregon; eleven grandchildren, including Jacob, whom his grandparents raised since he was a small boy, and six great-grandchildren.  A sister, Olivine Pete Kelsey, died before him.  Donations may be made to Evans Mills Rescue Squad.

Obituary:  Oswego News (NY), Wednesday, 15 April 2020:  Frances M. Pete, 90, of Elm Ridge Rd., passed away, Tuesday, April 14, 2020 at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown, NY.  Born on March 3, 1930 in Sterlingville, NY, she was a daughter of George and Lila Hayes Christman.  She attended Black River and Carthage Schools and obtained her GED in October 1990.  Frances married James W. Pete on September 8, 1946 at the Theresa Methodist Church with Rev. Kenneth Jones, officiating.  Mr. Pete passed away in 1997.  The couple resided in Smithville and Theresa before moving to Evans Mills in the 1960's, where they owned and operated their farm on the Elm Ridge Rd., retiring in the 1980's.  Frances also worked as a Paper Maker for Crown Zellerbach, Carthage, NY.  She enjoyed crafts, cake decorating, and bowled in several leagues over the years and belonged to the Senior Citizens League.  Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Crump, Evans Mills, NY; a son, Joseph Pete, Boca Raton, FL; a daughter-in-law, Cathy Pete, Canton, NY; a sister-in-law, Sally Christman, Carthage, NY; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.  Her parents, her husband, a grandson, Jacob Pete, (who James W., Sr. and Frances Pete raised), three brothers, George, Gerald and Stanley Christman, four sisters, Marion Crump, Melba Gleason, Lila Passage and Wanetta Lautenslager, all died previously.  Burial will be in the family plot, Sandy Hollow Cemetery, Philadelphia, NY, with Rev. Cynthia Marie Pete:  The Ithaca Journal (Ithaca, NY), Tuesday, 27 October 2009:  Cynthia M. Wing, August 25, 1951 - October 20, 2009 - Freeville - Cynthia M. Wing, 58, of 560 Bone Plain Rd., Freeville, NY passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2009, in her daughter's home in Virginia Beach, VA, after a three year struggle with kidney cancer.  Cynthia will be dearly missed by her family and friends.  She will be fondly remembered for her love of pigs, genuine compassion for all who crossed her path, and for the strength and determination with which she lived the final days of her life.  Born August 25, 1951 in Watertown, NY, she is the daughter of Frances Christman Pete and the late James W. Pete.  She grew up in Evans Mills, NY where most of her family is still residing.  She worked at Smith Corona for 15 years until the plant closed and then she went to work at BOCES, Adult Education Center in Ithaca, NY until recently when she could no longer work.  Mrs. Wing was predeceased by her husband of 24 years, Lloyd F. Wing in November 2006.  A treasured mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister, Cynthia leaves behind her grandmother, Bonnie Hunt Ward of Bend, OR; mother, Frances M. Pete of Evans Mills, NY; sister, Sandra Crump of Evans Mills, NY; brothers, James W. Pete and wife, Cathy of Canton, NY and Joseph W. Pete and wife, Janine of Boca Raton, FL; son, Robert C. James Wesley Pete:  Watertown Daily Times (Watertown, NY), Friday, 24 August 2012:  James 'Jim' W. Pete Jr., 58, of Canton and formerly of Evans Mills, died on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at home.  Jim is survived by his wife Cathy, daughter Tracy Drappo of Pompano Beach, FL; a son, Jeremy and wife Laurie of Potsdam; his mother Frances Pete of Evans Mills; sister Sandra Crump of Evans Mills; brother Joseph and wife Jeanine of Boca Raton, FL; grandchildren, Jenna Drappo, Joshua and Jessie and step-grandchildren, Alexis Taylor, Ashley and Shane Rheaume, grandmother Bonnie Ward of Oregon and many nieces, nephews and cousins.  Jim is predeceased by his father, James Pete Sr., a sister Cynthia Wing, grandson James Pete and by a nephew Jacob Pete.  Jim was born January 18, 1954 in Carthage, the son of James Sr. and Frances (Christman) Pete.  He was raised on a farm in Evans Mills and educated at the Indian River School District, until joining the Marines in 1971.  On May 27, 1972, he was united by marriage to Catherine Van Buren.  They celebrated their 40th anniversary with family, earlier this year.  Jim joined the Marines in 1971 and was honorably discharged in 1973, to help on the family farm due to his father having an injury.  Jim helped start the Wood Chop Shop in Canton; that brought his family to the area in 1979.  He enjoyed repairing mechanical engines which brought him to start his own business, Pete's Small Engines.  Jim enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, his dog Bailey, two birds, Fed Ex and Polly, NASCAR, hunting and wild life.  A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the O'Leary Funeral Home, Canton.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday afternoon and evening from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
