Family Notes:
- The addition of Joseph Pitre* to the children of Ignace Pitre & Marguerite Roy is a hard one to place properly. His 1853 marriage entry in the St. Hughes, Bagot register gives his name as Joseph Pitt, and lists him as a major son of deceased Ignace & Marguerite Roi. Witnesses include his brother Ignace, and brother-in-law Antoine Henaut. The 1861 Upton, Bagot census shows: Joseph Pitre 35 farmer, wife Florence Thuote 27, Marguerite Roi 65 widow, Lazare Latour 15, Francis Haneau 7 (thereby including his widowed mother Marguerite Roy and a nephew Francois Hunault). These 2 persons are still with Joseph (46) and wife Florence (44) in the 1871 census of Ste. Helene, Bagot. There is also a listing in the 1870 Westbrook, Cumberland, Maine census showing Joseph Peters 45 (working in a paper mill), wife Florencena 42, Frank 16 (working in a paper mill), Margie King 72. Again, mother Marguerite Roy (King) and nephew Frank Hunault with them. [Francis Hunault's naturalization petition at Portland, Maine on 6 September 1884 lists him as Frank Pitre, age 31, born February 1853 at St. Hyacinthe, Quebec; arriving at Windham, Maine in 1861; witnessed by Charles Laberge & Elzeard Houle of Westbrook.]
This would put Joseph's birth at about 1825, which doesn't 'fit' in between the others. The birth record for Joseph(te) in May 1823 could have been his as the record seems to indicate 'Joseph' rather than Josephte. However the August 1823 burial record for Josephte clearly says Josephte, age 3 months. Joseph could be Ignace born 1819, as I cannot locate a burial record.
2023 update: As I have now located Florence's Tuot's birth/baptism record, I believe that Joseph is in fact the Ignace born in 1819.
