Obituary:  Telegraph Journal (St. John, NB), Monday, 26 April 1954:  Dalhousie - A 43-year-old Medran, Gloucester County man died near Petit Rocher about 1:30 p.m. Saturday as he worked on pulp driving operations for N. B. International Paper Company's woodland division at Camp 17 on Benjamin River.  The victim is Joseph Pitre, father of four children, three of whom are under 16 years of age.  Pitre, with other workmen, was working at the base of a pulpwood pile, when the four-foot lengths began to slide.  His co-workers shouted to him, and Pitre was able to escape in time.  But, on reaching the bank of the river he collapsed and died, police said.  Saturday was the first day of work on the early driving season.  It was understood a 'mudmobile' property of the compeny, had to cover a distance of 46 miles over rugger terrain to bring out the body.  An inquest has been called for Monday at 8 p.m. in Dalhousie, with Coroner Dr. Joseph Potter presiding.  An autopsy was performed by Dr. Clarence Rosenhek of Campbellton.  The fatality was investigated by Const. W. J. Gairns, Jacquet River, RCMP detachment.

Pitre, son of Rosanna Guerette, husband of Dorina Lejeune.  Two daughters; Jeannine and Doria.  Two sons: David and Roger.  One brother Alphonse, at Dastous Motors, Dalhousie.  Three sisters: Imelda (Mrs. Louis Jacques, Windsor, Ont.), Adeline (Mrs. Hector Arseneau of Madran), Agatha (Mrs. Lorenzo Arseneau of Devereaux).
